Rock Band
« on: June 24, 2007, 06:39:11 pm »
Because I already own GH II for the 360 I was sorta not interested in Rock Band. But then I saw a a new picture of the drums and it got me thinking, "maybe I could get it?" I've heard that they want provide a ton of DLC for the game (something GHII said they were going to do) and the guitar from GHII will still work with the game. My girlfriend likes karaoke games and I always wanted to drum, so it's something we could do together.

A couple things holding me back is, do I really need another clunky controller for my 360? I already have one guitar and the racing wheel, I don't know if I have room for a drum kit? Also will the game actually have songs my girlfriend will actually want to sing? That last one not such a big deal, I have no problem druming it up by myself.

What are you're guys thought on this new contender in the music game genre?

It could be interesting provided the cost of all the different peripherials isn't too high.

But honestly, I can't see myself playing on a guitar controller while my friends play the drums, bass, etc. It's just too much to get and setup. I think I'd have more fun going head-to-head with someone in Guitar Hero.

It's a neat concept, but I think EA/Harmonix are trying to do too much.

It looks fun but the money needed to buy all the equipment is too much. GHII was too much as it is on my wallet. A mic, guitar, drums, and the game itself. It's crazy.

Given that you can actually play over the internet and that therefore you only need to buy one peripheral (which if you're a GH2 owner you already have) it's not that expensive.

If you're playing with friends, make them buy the rest of the kit, the cheapskates.

After Guitar Hero II, I'm not interested in paying $90 for a game, when I can save $30 and buy....umm.....generic shooter or racing game?

Ok yeah, I'll probably get it. Not immediately though. Just as soon as the price drops and I get tired of Shadowrun.

IGN has a hands on immpression, they seem to like it. Some good things: 100 songs palnned so far to be downloable in the first year! User created avatars are always cool... alright not as cool as 100 songs as DLC.

and also: rock band is not online

This is a lie. It's definitely going to be online, because there's band matching.

But this needs to be in a/the Rock Band thread.

Wish granted. Sign up for the band here. I'd love to get in on this no live for me as of yet but I'm currently in plans to change that maybe. Until then the Gaming Steve Experience needs members.

I imagine we will have people playing depending on who is avalible when we play. if you the only guy with a drum kit your stuck on the skins. Then again if everyone gets a set of drums we may go through more drummers than Spinal Tap.

I've been seriously thinking about it but, can't figure out if it's worth making room to store the drums.

I got this game for Christmas and it is really fun. The game has a lot more depth in multi-player mode, but you can play by yourself. Me and my brother have been playing it. I would definitely recommend it.

I've been playing this at my friend's house and it is probably the most multiplayer fun I've had in a while.

We rotate through the instruments, mike -> guitar -> drums. Drums for me is difficult, even on easy :X The foot pedal keeps on throwing me off, I have to learn to seperate it from the drums. The difficulty between easy singing and medium singing is a rather large gap it seems. I can get 90+ on easy but fail on medium. It's also kind of awkward to activate the star power for singing, because you don't really know what to yell. I cycle through a Tarzan-type scream and a bold, "Activate!" The guitar seems to be what I'm best at, which isn't saying much since I've never even played guitar hero before. I'm a rather solid medium on that, but the difficulty gap is extremely large to get to hard so I'll wait a bit for that.

God no...my brothers got this game. They suck COMPLETE ASS at it. for the past 2 hours I've heard nothing but those drums going one TWO three FOUR, and my other brother attempting to sing along...

If only easy mode had another rhythm to it. (I'm not saying I'm any good though. I don't really like RB/GH type games)

I was playing with this today. It's fantastic. The Guitar action didn't seem as sharp as Guitar Hero and you have to really have hit the drums hard, but it was a great game and a good laugh.

The track listing is far superior to Guitar Hero, mind.

My appreciation for Rock Band just dropped. It's that gosh darn guitar.

When I play notes they always seem to miss. I end up finding out I cannot hold the strum bar for even a second. I have to flick the gosh darn thing and I end up hurting my fingers. I like GHs guitars better because they give a nice easy click and you don't have to release the strum.

I understand that if I were to play a guitar in real life you don't hold the strings when strumming or else it's mute but I don't have the dexterity to do that.

That's weird, cause I can hold it on mine.  Perhaps an option is set on yours?  Or you're doing something wrong?  Or it's broken?  Who knows.

I'm having a few friends round in a week or so and would love to play this game with them but the UK price tag is rediculous. I'm trying to find somewhere that rents out the band in box set so I can have it for a night or two.
