I myself play a LOT of board games.  It should be expected for someone like me who earns a good $200 a wekk playing Magic: The Gathering.   What I want to know is, have any of you guys fooled around with making your own games and such?  I've been trying to breach into the industry but it's tough to get a decent contract these days.

I was making extra rules for Risk, but then I realized that Risk is supposed to be simple and sweet. Everyone is a vicious dictator that has armies everywhere and blows the hippikaloric* out of EVeryone in sight.

(Now, pOZ for a second. You get 5 bazillion nerd points if you might by some chance know which book I'm referring to.)

When I was a little kid, I made my own cards for Monopoly.

"Bean an old lady with a frozen carp. Get fined $500."

"A radioactive spider bites you. Use your cool web powers to snatch $5,000 from your opponent's cash pile."

"Find out that you're Force-sensitive. Use the force to move your piece anywhere. If you pass Go, you do not collect $200."

"Martians land and take over the world. Go to Jail. If you don't get out of Jail in 5 turns, the Martians suck your blood and you die. You lose. If you escape, you hijack a tripod and kill your opponent(s). You win."

"Godzilla attacks the city. You die. Game over."

*This must be a dreadful word because we don't know what it means.

Playing risk with my family is not fun. My dad's down with it, but my brother is just plain uninterested. Makes the game boring.

In no particular order...

Carcassonne
Anything with "Munchkin" in the title is fun.
Cosmic Encounters
Talisman
