Nintendo Wi Fi tech support
« on: May 26, 2007, 08:15:03 am »
My Wifi connection recently died and I'm not really sure why or how to fix it. Perhaps some more tech savvy board members could lend me a hand?

I have my computer connected via a router to an external modem to a cable based internet. This is a land router with all connections being made with ethernet cables.

I purchased the nintendo wifi wireless nub, that plugs into the computers USB port. After installing the wifi software on my computer (being sure to disable my firewall during the installation as the instructions insist) my nintendo wifi worked fine for both my DS and my Wii

A few weeks ago my computer bluescreened (didn't get the error message) and restarted, and since then it wont connect. For awhile my DS would show 3 connectivity bars when trying to connect to WI FI but they would suddenly dissapear and it would give me the error that no WI FI connection could be found.

I tried to reinstall the wifi software but that doesn't even work.

Any suggestions? I don't really have the budget to buy a wireless router when my land one works just fine.

I believe you must have wireless internet for the Wi-fi dongle to work. I know that whenever my wireless internet goes out, I can't connect my DS to Wi-fi using the dongle.

I think you're going to need a new wireless router if you'll want to get online with DS and Wii, seeing as how both systems use Wi-fi. :-\

Although I do know that Nintendo sells seperate ethernet cables for Wii, so if you pick on of those up, you should be able to get a wired internet connection with that.

He said that it worked fine before his comp crashed, so that coan't be the reason, Pilot.

Pinstar, you might want to check wether the crash didn't hurt the dongle by trying on another comp. Or if you can't, you could try the following:
1. unplug the dongle
2. de-install the dongle software and restart your computer
3. re-plug the dongle
4. re-install the software
<<<< Click to enter.

Ah, I thought I read that his wireless router crashed, not his computer. My mistake. :)

Wait, do we need to use a funny nintendo thingummy to get the wifi to work? Even if we already have wireless internet?

No, if you already have wireless, you can use that.

As long as your wireless is compatible with the DS most of them are for example mine isn't I think if you check the nintendo website they have a list of all the compatible Wireless routers and what not.

I guess mine isn't then. My neighbours on the other hand might be, and it is unprotected...
