Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
« on: May 23, 2007, 08:34:24 am »
I don't think we have a topic for this.

I'm going to see this tomorrow. We're dressing as pirates. I will report on it afterwards.

It was rather good (saw it on the premiere). A good ending. I would say some more but I am afraid I might ruin some of the story.

I'm seeing it on Saturday with the girlfriend. It looks good.

I don't think i'll be seeing it tomorrow, but there is a possibility.

Trailers look good, but it seems a little overblown to me. We shall see.

A good ending.
This one actually has an ending? ::) But really, I'm kind of interested in it too.

Good ending? Maybe you weren't watching the same film as I was.

Rest of the film was piratey enough, but the ending just disappointed me.
Not a winner anymore.

Brief summary:

Lots of action - good
Lots of "humorous moments" to defuse tension between action set pieces - bad
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern moments from both sides - generally irritating
Pirate themes - good
Romance themes - bad
Cool idea for the ending scenes - good
Telegraphed ending - bad
CGI - good
Acting - much better than last time. Orlando Bloom wasn't quite so wooden.
Dressing up as pirates: Awesome
Getting accosted everywhere as a pirate: quite awesome

I just saw it tonight.  I enjoyed it... but still thought that it could have done much more with the plot-lines explored in the second film.  Once again recurring jokes made it silly at times, and there are some really ridiculous scenes (you'll know what I mean when you see them).  But I really enjoyed it and had a good evening.  It was money well spent, which considering the standard of films out in the cinemas lately is a compliment.  Also I'd reiterate that Orlando Bloom was pretty good in the film, he stopped being Orlando Bloom and actually started to become Will Turner.

All in all, a good film, worth seeing, and I'll probably buy it on DVD.  But for those of you who've seen it, the ending leaves a potential scenario for a fourth film, but I thought that this was to be the last one?

I just got back from seeing it, and I really enjoyed it. The story was just one twist after another, much like the second film. And the ending (especially the small portion after the credits) wrapped up the series nicely, while still leaving the possibility of a fourth film, depending on how you interpret it. Either way, a fitting end to a great series of films.

And from the astounding amount of people going to see it at our theater, where it's showing on five screens, I do hope it breaks Spiderman 3's record.

I saw part of it then got bored and left the theatre. I hadn't seen one or two, but the Peruvian to my right, who had seen one and two, thought it was terrible and we left and almost got into a fight with a guy who threw a dirt clod at me.

That's like watching Return of the King or Return of the Jedi without seeing the other films... and especially in regards to Pirates, where there are so many plot-lines it's unbelievable.
