Dinosapien
« on: May 17, 2007, 05:02:15 pm »

I heard about this show where it follows a species of dinosaurs that survived the extinction and evolved into sentient creatures. I wonder if it will be a good show. But it looks sorta like a cheesy show since it has people in it. :/ But its for kids so its probably not going to be anything as cool as say "Future is Wild" or "Walking with Dinosaurs" even if they are using the same technique.

Meh... could be good but I think they are going to make it really kiddy. It will probably end up being like Spongebob but with dinosaurs.

As long as they don't make it just a thing of stegosaurus and rexs and every species everyone knows all talking and being sapient creatures. Just make it one line that reached that level and possibly other species that are domesticated.

But that thing... Looks like a chimp's face grafted onto a dinosaur... not a good sign in my book

*re-crosses fingers* Please don't be stupid... Please don't be stupid...

It'll be stupid, or at least short on good science.

Looking at the picture it looks to me like they've just anthropomorphised a dinosaur by shortening its snout, giving it hair and moving the eyes forward.

People are so anthropocentric when it comes to evolution. It annoys me.

This is a bit off topic, but the ABC shop has this box set of Walking with Dinosaurs and Walking with Monsters. Should I get it? I never saw Dinosaurs in full and the Monsters one looks good.

It's just the basic principle of marketing appealing characteristics to children. Kids are not mature enough to appreciate realism, so they have to redesign something that is likeable and lovable in a human perspective. What matters most to a producer is that it doesn't matter if it's not real, it just needs to look good.

Oh, its a kids show. Having now taken the time to glance at the links I now understand. I thought it was a documentary like those Future is Wild shows.

I am now totally convinced it will be utter tripe.

Dinosapien is set at a Dinosaur Summer Camp in Canada’s badlands, where Dr. Hillary Slayton lives with her teenage daughter Lauren. Hillary’s husband Alan Slayton was a palaeontologist, who mysteriously disappeared on a fossil expedition into the badlands and Lauren still hasn’t come to terms with his death. Lauren is the first human to encounter one of the evolved dinosaurs, which she eventually befriends and names Eno. Lauren and Eno form a special bond. Through Eno, Lauren hopes to learn the fate of her father, and through Lauren, Eno seeks protection from the dangerous Diggers – dinosaurs that are tracking Eno down and trying to kill him. Over two series, Dinosapien will unravel the mystery of the evolved dinosaurs, and reveal the extraordinary truth of what really happened to Lauren’s father in the badlands.

Bah, they should have scrapped the dinosaur concept, and continued the story of the neosapiens.

They should have scrapped the whole dinosaur camp and human family part, or all human civilization for that matter.

I had actually never heard of this before and caught it on the other day. Actually the first thing that bothered me is the badlands looks nothing like that. Some parts do but others were obviously shot much further from the badlands.

As for the actualy show.. yeah.. I don't think I'll be rushing to watch that again, it made my inner-paleontologist cry.
