The Austians
« on: May 05, 2007, 05:53:13 am »

Appearance:

Austians are bipedal insectoids, who are a mix of green and blue colours. They a have two sets of fangs on the edge of their mouths, which help chew up food, due to lack of teeth. On one hand they have an ordinary hand with insectine scales, while the other has a small claw on it. Austians have no ears, so they have two sets of antennae. While civilians wear ordinary clothes, soldiers wear high-tech(ish*) battlesuits.

*Not as high tech as more advanced and ancient civilisations, but high tech nonetheless.

Personality:

The average Austian is quite, but speaks out when it needs too, it is protective of its friends, family and, if in the army, fellow soldiers. Priests are stubborn and devout to the Austian ways, and simply accuse others of heresy if they do not agree with the priests.
Soldiers and Guards are generally loyal to Generals and Leaders, and protect their people at all times, but impatient in battle.

Culture:

Austians civilians are very interested in culture, artists and writers are most of the population on the East half of Austa Minor, because of the massive amount of movies and publishing’s there. Most art is of the sky and planets, because Austians are highly interested in space, one of the main reasons the Austians were overjoyed after the first spaceship was built.

Religion:

Austian religion is deeply complicated; briefly, the Austians believe that the elements are represented by four tribes, the Dazks Tribe (Fire), Iks Tribe (Water), Viis Tribe (Air) and Linz Tribe (Rock). Each of these tribes split their power up and ruled the Planet. There are many stories about the wars between them. The “Sacred Scrolls” tell that artefacts on other worlds can be used in a ritual to grant immortal life and peace to the galaxy.

This has caused many problems in the Austian Military, as Generals would tend to help in wars and take the sensible options, while high priests send men to their death fighting for planet “Which could help for the holy cause”. Before the Austians went into space, their were many wars about which Tribe was the strongest and had the right morals.

Dazks - That power in milatary might is stronger than all.
Iks - That Rules should be upheld above ones own life.
Viis - Diploamacy and law is better than Fighting
Linz - The final and strongest tribe, they Think that become more advanced and inteligent than the others will lead to victory.

The Linz tribe became the strongest tribe, and all the other tribes split into minor tribes, which eventuly became great nations, before banding together as a planet.

The church system in like the fuedal system. The higher you are up the chain, then you practicly own the people below you.

The High Priest is the powerful, Pope-like person, the Cardinal is the High Preist's assistants, the "Caiisls" are men who are below Cardinals, but above the lowly priest. The regular Priest is beneath them, and at the very bottom is the Holy-Troopers (the holy garison of the Austian army)

Military:

The thing that the Austians are known for on the battlefield is speed, Austians get the job done quite quickly, relying on the ability to destroy the enemy Warship’s main guns before they it gets a chance to use them. Although they lack large, strong warships, Austian marines are quickly laded on the enemy ship.

On the planets and moons, Austian troopers charge at the flanks of the enemy, although it is slower, the attack is more deadly. The Austians use many unique troops such as the Flame-trooper or the Electro-Trooper (armed with special guns that electrocute the enemies).

Austian Generals prefer Walkers over Tanks; this includes the R7 Battlewalker, which blasted its way through the battles on Austa Greater. Walkers can walk over petty obstacles that could stop a convoy of tanks.

The army is led by two different kinds of generals, The “proper” Army Generals, and High Priests, who constantly argue about whether they should take part in a battle that might actually help the Austians practically, or just attack a random planet that “Might help the holy cause”.

Very cool race ;D I also misread it as Austrians at first, and wondered how Asutria could be considered a place inhabited by aliens ;)

As you have heard from Balth (Mr. Consideration), you qualify as a candidate for the Grand Union.

This is a Union Loyalist Soldier, after the split, most of the Union most Austians migrated (and after the Junta Rebellion, fled) to the Austa System. Those who stayed behind, mostly soldiers loyal to the Union, were generaly demoted to a lower caste in life. After the Junta Rebellion, Austians feared for their lives, except for the loyalists, who welcomed the new leaders with open arms, and joined their army. Union Loyalists wore bigger, more scary masks to seperate themselves from the other Austians.

Their weaponry is built into the suit, with a small minigun which can be switched into a flamethrower, and a strong crushing hand where their claw should be. The tail is surgicly removed, as it has been proven to not be needed any more, and just a cosmetic part of the body. The entire suit is wired into the Austian's brain, the suit can filter out several poisonous gases, and is w00t4g3. It's a pity more Austians didn't stay behind.

Basicly, if your an Austain, you're either forced to listen to racism, be bullied by unfair laws and be constantly arested for no reason, or you can join the AULA (Austian Union Loyalist Army) and be fear by the public.

In that case, The GPA would be the UN, The USSS would be the EU, The Unions would be Russia GW1 would be WW1 the Paradise Gulf War would be the War on Terror, Beyon would be Ney Work, and GalEx would be the WTC. Did I get that right?

As far as I'm aware, Paradise Gulf is Chechnya, if the Union is Russia.

Yeah, except there's no such thing as "GW1" or "Ney Work."

I'm fairly certian he meant "Galactic War One". To be fair most of us frequent on the RP Sporum wern't around back then. Galactic War Two was DEFINITLY World War Two, right down to the concentration camps and evil dictators and everything

The bugger is Ney Work, though.

Actually, I updated the OP of the second sticky last month.

The event index, however, is a nightmare to update, because that would involve going back and trying to piece together events which people no longer are active to explain. At the same time, it is the only thread that chronicles all the events in the golden age of the Spore RPs. So we don't want to get rid of it.

Uuuuuuppppdaaaaaattteeee

Current Government

As of right now, at this moment, ie, now, as in, whenever the start of "Them" takes place, which is probably around about now, the Austian's governmental and civil structure is as follows:

In a setance, the Austian Republic has transformed into a nation of badasses. While still part of the Union, the Austian Republic has transformed into the state of the Austian General Military. Almost every single Austian who is a citizen of the Republic has, will or is currently serving in the military forces, either as part of the Union's Combined military or, more likely, as part of the General Military. While only about a tenth of the military are actualy members of the near legendary Austian Space Marines (the main combat wing of the Military Forces), the rest are serving in the Police, management, fleet, engineers, trade reprisentatives, colonist, government and many, many other Corps.

Each Austian serves by obligation, duty and honour in order to fufill the terms Oath of Citizenship, which is read out to an Austian child at birth. While service can mean anything from full frontline combat to managing colonial affairs, all forms of service are seen as equally important and valid within Austian society. Military Service, and therefore Austian Citizenship, is allowed to be turned down and while seen as disrespectful, is tolerated. This does not deny them right to own Land, sell goods or even vote in the Union elections; they still are considered citizens of the Liberal Union and are therefore still considered subjects of Austian rule. However, full Austian Citizenship allows continued service as a professional soldier, the ability to run for local seats, vote in local elections and declare asylum in Austian Embassys, should they require protection from unfair law in foriegn nations.

Democracy is still part of the governmental system, which has two leaders; the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces and Highest Ranked Admiral is considered to be the Head of State, while the Prime Minister is the democraticaly elected leader of the government. The Head of State and Military Leady consents the Prime Minister to be elected (which is pretty much all cases, constitutionally the Prime Minister can only be denied power in cases of national emergancy and Martial Law), while in turn the Prime Minister makes the policy desiscions of the government, proposing bills to Austian internal government to be voted on. The Head of State can be replaced should the Prime Minister and Government request it.

Other Races, Union or not, are allowed to live on any Austian colony and apply for provisional Austian Citizenship, and as a result the Austian General Military has a trade boom due to the protection that living under a huge military centre can bring. Piracy is rarely a problem for Austian sponsered convoys; and thus many traders will happily give up a portion of their profits in return for a near zero percent risk. Recently, the Austian Foreign Division, made of members of non-union races, was set up. While rarely anything other than a border protection force, the quality of their training is just as enduring and high quality as that of the Austian Marines.

EDIT: Searched it. I guess they're similar in the "everyone is in the army in this faction" sense, but with your case it's sort of a Knight Templar thing, where Knights Errants were just as much accounts as religious warriors; with the Austians it's more of a "Service Ensures Citizenship! Would you like to know more?"

Well not the NEIL PATRICK HARRIS parts, mostly the creepy "earn your citizenship" undertones.

SERVICE ENSURES CITIZENSHIP! VOTING IS A FORCEFUL ACTION, LIKE WAR! WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE?

Also, it's only Local Elections that they can't vote in without citizenship, they can still vote for the Reprisentative in the Liberal Union.

State of Foriegn Affairs and Current Issues

Currently, the Austian's main foriegn issue is the War against Pirate Coalitions and Rogue states. Such hostile groups are common in the "Backyard of the Civilised Galaxy", and due to trade expeditions and convoys needing to travel through these areas, it is nessesary for hostile elements to be eliminated to ensure good trade. While the Austian Military rarely conducts operations personally, Merc Groups sponsered by the Austian General Government are always active in some way; be it protecting trade routes or attacking Pirate bases. While most races will be defending the trade routes, the Austians have been firmly pushing to wipe out all traces of illegal activity in those areas.

The Holy Austian Civil war was second on the agenda. While almost all damaged caused by the revolution has since been repaired, and the High Priests long being kicked out or executed, what remains of the Holy Marine Divisions and the Refugees that went with them (hostages were also taken, mostly innocent civilians whom where considered by the Theocratic government to be their own subjects, rather than that of the new Government) were still active for some time. The Holy Austian Order Front, now a mixture between a government in exile and a terrorist organisation, was forced to seek asylum in various friendly nations and continue their war against the Austian General Government. The AGG forces formed a huge majority over the smaller HAOF Holy Marines. Attacks against the Union and Austian trade partners were common; yet this was remedied by the Union sponsered stamping out of internal and external terrorist groups.

While the AGG leaders and the HAOF's subjects both want a ceasefire, the stubborn High Priests refuse to make peace, believing there is no real compromise other than the High Priest regaining power. Munitiny rates have been steadily rising for the HAOF, and strategists from the majority of nations believe HAOF is on the verge of collaspe.

Being in such a congested area filled with so many ethnic groups must be a pain for your race (and the others in the Union.) This is Civil War/ Revolution what now, seven?

Revolution number 8, if I counted correctly, though to be fair it was probably the third or fourth civil war in the Union, and was pretty much solved once all the other Union races stopped trying to kill eachother for a few seconds and kicked out the Theocrats.
