I want this keyboard ... now!
« on: July 18, 2005, 10:47:27 am »
This is freaking cool. Rather than tradition keys that feature printed characters, each key on the "Optimus" keyboard contains a small OLED display that can be set to display whatever the user requires. So not only can you remap every single key on your keyboard, but you can change the keyboard display as well. Freaking cool as hell.

Here is the entire article and lots more pictures:

Neat idea, but if the photos are what the final product are going to look like I'll pass. If it can't be laid out like the conventional keyobards I use everyday I'll get annoyed (I'm a computer tech and I jump from PC to PC all day... the split-ergo keyboards give me fits).

You could remap a QWERTY keyboard to a DVORAK keyboard. Other than that I see no real use. I'm used to the regular key setup.

I saw this a few days ago too.  It looks awsome, but the pricetage is high.  Its good to see so much interest in it, makes it much more likely to come to market.  I will have to wait for it to come down in price.  Its wireless too, and I here you can animate the keys as well if you want.

Depends how you envision it.  A lot of people who have NDEs (Near Death Experiences) hear eerie whispers and mumbling and darkness, and imagine that as a glimpse of "Hell".  That's one of the most common experiences people who have NDEs of Hell have.

I once saw something about this keyboard that fits in the arm rests, so that each hand is totally seperate, and instead of keys, it reacts to how your fingers move. so for instance, an 'h' would be typed be moving your right index finger to the left. So instead of typing keys you would just be moving your fingers in the direction of where those keys would be. I think the mouse was inside these devices as well, so you could just keep your hands on the arm rests at all times... THAT would be cool. Almost as cool as not having to use your hands at all. That's what I'm waiting for, the 'implanted' keyboard/mouse. oh yeah.

As far as a keyboard that lights up, seems pretty distracting to me. I guess if you use keyboard shortcuts alot it would be nice.

I was actully going to say my self hell doesnt have to be hot there could be an Ice hell where instead of unbareable heat there is unbareable cold. I'm sure they covered this In various Buffy/Angel episodes along with the Universe completely deviod of shrimp and the universe that is nothing but shrimp.

Oh and as an Australian it's a Prawn not a Shrimp.

You idiots keep talking about something completely unrelated to keyboards. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Go start a thread about hell if you want to talk about it so bad.

relax man, geez...
anyway, id be great if you could download different layouts for new software.  I think that'd make it alot easier on people when they switch from something like Maya to Panda and having to learn the new shortcuts and definatly when you're doing alot of beta testing, it's nice not to have to reference some online manual.  Plus it looks really impressive.
