Looking for a Sci-Fi flight simulator... do they exist?
« on: April 10, 2007, 05:42:39 pm »
Wow, I haven't been on these forums in a while. Anyway, it's not me, but my dad who's always looking for a sci-fi flight simulator. Something where you fly around in a cockpit and shoot aliens. That's how HE described it, anyhow. To tell the truth, I had absolutely no idea. I don't know of any like these, except maybe Starfox, but I don't think that's really the kind of game he's looking for. Could anyone help me out? It'd help me get him a good birthday present, or father's day. Whatever.  ???

Take a look at Freelancer... it's got some aliens in it and it's a great (and easy) flight sim/arcade battle game.

I wish there was one where you can actually explore the planet   :-\

What about a fantasy flight sim?

Um... fantasy...?

That's tough... ah Skies of Arcadia might fit the bill.

You want a combat flightsim with a dragon battle?

Eeesh... you're making this real easy... :P

The first level in StarFox Adventures is just like that. I think you may be out of luck...

I do hear that there will be Lair which is all about dragon fighting, but unfortunately it will be released for the PS3. :'(

X3 is the main one, quite beautiful graphics
other than that, freelancer
the only other one is the open space project (an open source improvement of starlancer 2 i think)

Yes X3 and really very nice looking.  A friend of mine is playing DarkStar One and so far he's having a blast.  Might want to check it out.

The problem with the X games is that they are obscenely hard to pick up and play and there's a ton to learn.

You could look at "Babylon 5: I've Found Her" - a free space sim (heavy emphasis on "SIM"). Just google the name.
