I think the super soakers filled with holy water would work best on vampires, but that's another story.

And if there ever is a zombie uprising, the first thing I'll think will be "Man, that Patman is a total ass."
Probably not a Goat, either.

I'd prefer water balloons for holy water delivery more splash damage (very literal in this case) but vampire fighting tactics is for another topic.

For zombies just stand in the middle of a set of stairs armed with a baseball bat. Any trying to get up will fail, as its well known that zombies can't climb stairs, and any trying to go down will wall, and as they slide down you can give them a quick wack to the head and destroy their brains.

They can climb stairs.  It just takes them a friggen long time...

The best thing to do is to ditch this crummy planet and go somewhere safer...

Except there are no habitable planets in our solar system, and the chances of another solar system having habitable planets is so low it would take millions of years to find one. By which time we would be dead.

Unless we travel faster than the speed of light. Which is impossible

But then again, so is zombies coming back from the dead.

So this is a draw.

Actually, when you consider the hardness of a human skull, a baseball bat wouldn't exactly make the best melee weapon. Cutting/slashing weapons are likewise ineffective when you take into account the thickness of the spinal cord and the energy expended per hit. Now, a piercing weapon, if you could were in the thick of a melee, would be effective since you could concentrate the stabbing power onto a single point and likely pierce the skull to deactivate the zombie.

On the topic of other habitable planets, there is always mars (we can live in bubbles!) and various moons that could be used, etc.

On the topic of this topic, it seems zombies are the flavor of the week. Shawn of the dead was on a few days ago, theres that HL2 mod with zombies, and then there's this topic.

It could be a virus that lives in every cell of the dead body, specifically the muscles and the brain, that keep it functional and provide it with energy. Just because the body is 'dead', doesn't mean it can't be rigged to be useable by something.

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Concerning the hardness of a skull etc, they're dead and partially decayed, and don't really have the same structural integrity as a live human would.

And lets be honest, a baseball bat would be cooler. Or more fun...

I disagree. In the initial stages of an attack, they'd be fresh and just as sturdy as a normal human being. Depending on the rate of decay, it could be days or years before their skulls weakened enough to make blunt objects a logical weapon. Also, the durability of bone is a major reason that it was used for so long as a material for weapons, tools, and utensils before the discovery of metal.

Crossbow or bow people, melee weapons against zombies is asking for trouble, and you're going to want recoverable ammo.
Nefarious?  Nearly.  Ne’er-do-well?  Never!  Neither nearly names this narrator.  Naive and knowledgeable, notorious and inscrutable, this nascent Nero is known naturally as Neoadept.

Considering the reload time you want to be an expert marksman with a crossbow. If you got a Mace that might go down a treat from cracking some zombie skull if there are so many zombies that you can't take them down melee weapon style a crossbow wont help you.

A crossbow bolt isn't really recoverable when it's embedded in zombie flesh.

If your not willing to get your hand dirty, you shouldn't be fighting zombies.
