Parental Control
« on: April 03, 2007, 10:21:17 am »
Hi there,

Did anyone watch this show?  I know it's been going on for a couple of seasons in America.  I'm going to be on the UK version and we start shooting tomorrow.  What did everyone think of it?  Thanks a lot!

Your going to be on TV? Cool! I haven't watched it but I might. Is it a reality show? Oh I just looked it up on the TIVO menu.

"Parents choose their children's dates in order to lure them away from undesirables. "
Maybe thats one episode.

Good luck with that, keep us updated on what happens.

Cheers LadyM.  I had the interview with the parents today... it was a really weird situation to be in, not having met the girl and being grilled by her parents!  Suffice to say I've probably managed to make an arse out of myself, but I'll find out later today if the parents saw past my mishaps in the interview and picked me.

Side-note - it feels weird wearing make-up!

What? You mean that stylish thong didn't attract a mate?

If I find out when your episode is on, I'll probably watch it. I'm not usually interested in this kind of show, though.

This thread didn't half veer off topic!  Anyways, an update:

I did the interview with the "Meet the Parents" stage.  A little insight into how they do the show:

First of all, you get your make-up done, and then you'll be given a script (yep it's scripted!) loosely influenced by yourself.  You're then briefed on how to do everything, and when you're being filmed the producer will cut things a lot and break it all up.  Was a bit annoying actually - I stuck to the script but then the producer kept interrupting and saying, "Hey, why not stand up and say that, make a bigger impact!" or something along those lines.

Suffice to say that I made an arse out of myself!  It was good fun, but they do heavily script the interview.  They even managed to convince me to do an impression of a Star Wars character... which will prove to be amusing viewing I'm sure.  I was told beforehand what my "role" was - I needed to "act nice and humble, and show that I was a gentleman who did this and that", and I believe all the other guys were briefed similarly.

So yeah, I thought it would be a lot more casual and less scripted than it was, but despite that it was a fun experience and they paid for the travel expenses, so it's all good!
