Considering the topic of the previous paragraph, it's not unrelated at all.

unlike many other species, the Graid are not close to sapient at birth, and have the brain capacity of a particuraly savy trout. it is not till almost five thousand years before they reach intelegence comparable to apes. each graid must essentialy gain it's own sentience over time.  

bonus tibit: the Graid's nervous system is also it's muscular system.


they are not a single government people. there are twelve major powers on Earthsky (the industrius moon is controlled by the senatorial of Coessus. the sancuary moon is technicaly under their juristiction, but they care little of it)
8 are in a semi-united state. of the other four, one cares little for the alliance, another has yet to fulfill the proper requirments for membership, and two are activly hostile toward the others.

Guh, I just read through this whole thread in search of info for my star charts. I am truly, deeply apologetic to you, Crazen, for underestimating the quality of your creation. This is truly one of the diamonds in the rough, no matter how repellent the below-average punctuation may be to Grammar Nazis. I salute you and greatly look forward to more information on these guys.

On another note, I'm assuming that the Graid's interstellar possessions are comparatively low in number. I read just one reference to "the colonies," and most info was just about Earthsky. One moon was classified as a defensive fortress and these guys are well-equipped for defensive fighting. That and their very homeworld-centric culture implies to me that their exoplanetary dominions are insignificant in size. So am I correct in assuming that they don't have much beyond Earthsky?

And your spot on. It's hard to build an empire when you don't exactly have a government. Also, tiny population.
Though they are rather far flung in the worlds they inhabit, seeing as some have been traveling for millions of years, enough time to reach almost anywhere in the galaxy (again, they don't use FTL).
