Mutatable Tools

What I mean is changing tool focus area. (i.e. wide-nozzle hose, Narrow hose)
Or you could use it for weapons. (focused laser or planet fryer)

So do you think it's possible?

I think there will be a system from going from clubs to spears to guns...

I doubt there'll be anything like what you day, but I agree with Kcronos. There might be something that allows you to change a wood-shaft tool to another wood-shaft tool, or upgrade with time, but I don't think that you can change something's effect without editing it or making a different one. Just seems too petty.

I don't really think you guys get what I'm sayin'.
I meant using the mouse wheel to change the focus of a tool/weapon.
But there probably would have to be like a Small focus nuke and then a planet destroyer.

I really like that idea. It would be kind of odd to change the effect of weapons with a turn of the wheel. upgrading over time sounds more normal and easier to work with. If you just used the wheel to change effects there is the possibility of forgetting what effect you're using on your weapons and doing something you didn't want to.

Just my 2 cents

I just think it would be weird for them to still carry around caveman clubs in the Space Age...

Agreed, and I would hope Will and his team would think about the weirdness of that as well. I'm sure he'll give us some way to change weapons and possibly other things as well as we go through Tribal. Just don't quote me on that in case I'm wrong.

Yeah, that was one of the problems civilization faced. What if you don't upgrade that warrior as you progress? You have guys in loincloths doing police duty in your capital 5000 years later  :P

That is strange for us. But if you always live in lionclothes or things like that you don't know otherwise, so it ain't so very weird.

maybe it will be in but it definitly won't effect the way it fires, maybe e.g if your creatures can have guns them you could make a rifle look like a blunderbus or somthing but that doesn't mean it will effect the way it shoots.
Never mind your own business.

I'm betting if there is something similar to what your saying it'll be located in the terraforming tools, or in the UFO's loadout. Being able to control each creature weapon wouldn't really do anything because by the time you get guns your gonna be in the city or civ stage and when you reach the civ stage your creature is basically an avatar for your UFO (and we don't know if you can control creatures individually in the city/civ stage, or if you could leave the city).

Actually.... do our creatures actually get weapons after the tribal stage or is global warfare conducted with vehicles?

Hmm no one understands my mind.

What I was saying was it is the same weapon THE WHOLE TIME.

It would be like changing the weapon's size like so:
Small laser      Big laser
                        ________________________
                       /
                      /
---------        /
---------        \
                      \
                       \________________________

Exept controlled by the mouse wheel.
I saw this as a way to simplify tools so you could have one laser in and of itself.
The tool would not have a different effect, but that effect would be applied over different areas.
There would also be a meter as to how you are applying the effect.
Get it. Got it. Good.

Well you coulda just said that before, then everyone wouldnt be so confused. And the size of the beam / area effect will most likely be handeled by the parts you make the gun from.
