Quality reporting from the Daily Mail.  Based on nothing, I'd guess that he'll get a slap on the wrist and the tour guides will get thrown under the bus.
Probably not a Goat, either.

No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

Dropping over 55k on a single hunting trip sounds pretty wealthy to me.  Wealthy enough to bribe your way out of an African prison sentence, at least.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Well, mob has its pitchforks and torches ready.

5000+ reviews, only 4 of those prior to him making the news.

This is apparently the second time he was busted for an illegal hunt.

All the joke comments end with "hurr **** this guy", which ruins the whole joke.

I guess that's what you get from amateur memesters.
Not a winner anymore.

He's a trending topic on twitter, there are a lot of upset people over this one. He better get security even, I've heard death threats. Big game hunting shouldn't even be happening anymore, those animals need to be conserved. What a poor choice, no one should be allowed to hunt any big game for fun and sport.

The worst part is that it seems as if they lured the lion out of the preserve so they could kill it. That seems pretty damming to me. It shows clear intent and knowledge of what they were doing. Plus they used a silent weapon. Just seems too planned.

So is the outrage more over killing a locally famous lion, or hunting lions in general?  It seems like it's the former.

I'm more or less fine with the way hunting is done in the States.  It helps keep populations in check where we offed all of the predators, and strict limits are in place for smaller populations.  And venison is delicious!  But hunting in Africa, especially big trophy hunting, is another story.  You can get into grey areas in a big way.  But trophy hunting is big business in Africa, and as long as it's profitable it will continue.

I remember being home and watching a piece on 60 minutes or some show like it about the lion industry in Africa.  They breed lots of lions for tourists to pet and cuddle when they're little.  Then once they're big and not cute anymore, they get sold off to ranches for canned hunts.  On one hand it's better than a threatened wild population being hunted, but taking down a half domesticated animal that's only there to be shot, that isn't even hunting.
Probably not a Goat, either.

I don't agree with anything this guy did or the hunting of endangered animals but I don't approve of this internet mob rule bull**** either. Like, come on, really? Is this the middle ages? Are we going to dispense justice collectively based on the whims of online opinion rather than actually employing some sort of formal justice system?
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

If people have a **** they would actually do something besides bitch online about the killing of a cat that is going extinct anyway due to way bigger pressures than hunting

My personal outrage is directed at two things:

-Guy was cited for not following procedure before
-The hunt itself seems pretty shady - was done in the dark, bow and arrow, lured lion out of protective zone, followed lion for 40 hours after injuring it

I don't think the guy should be hurt or that the posse be gathered and I think justice should be served in a reasonable fashion and any punishment determined then. But I am okay with the public outrage to the extent that he has been named and is being shamed. There are plenty of other things to hunt out there, even other lions. But the dude and his professional guides lured this lion out of a safe zone and to me that says there was knowledge of where they were and intent to skirt the law.

Whoa, reminds me of my comment about the pedophile in the gripe thread
No way dude, you're trolling me.

The guy is apparently a bow hunter, so that part doesn't bother me.

Convenient.

String him up and watch him die.
