So... Suffering for eternity with the illusion of control is better than eternal joy without that illusion? An unimpeachable, omniscient, omnipotent, morally perfect ruler is far better than trying to control it yourself... Unless you are said unimpeachable, omniscient, omnipotent, morally perfect ruler.

Aren't you the guy who's obsessed with the concept of personal freedom and is always really idealistic to the point of impracticability?
Haven't you basically thrown your lot in against even the most benevolent dictator by being so implacable in your support of libertarianism?
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

I identify with libertarians, I'd not call myself a subscriber to their entire philosophy. I'm in the centre, as ever (Some right-wing ideals, some left, some in the middle).

As for benevolent dictators, there's a difference between mortal dictators that can be corrupted and the one true ruler of all existence that is morally perfect. Besides, anyone who knows anything about God and free will in the Judeo-Christian tradition would be well aware that free will and the right to choose is one of the prime blessings of mankind.

A benevolent dictator is the best kind of government possible, especially if they support essential freedoms (Speech, for example). The better educated this leader, the better they can rule, especially if they're morally perfect, and if they have unlimited power, well... Logically, an omniscient, omnipotent, morally perfect leader is the best leader.

However, we lack any mortal leader who has these three qualities, so the best we can do is try and develop the best government possible with what we have.

The Sears Tower, the iconic structure that is nearly synonymous with Chicago itself is have a name change! That's right, it will now be called Willis Tower!

I cannot say that I approve of the change, but I don't have much of a voice in matters such as these. It will be interesting to see if Chicagoans (or the rest of the world) will actually start to refer to the tower as Willis or if it will simply be known as the Sears Tower.

Why rename it? It was perfectly fine the way it was.  ???
I'm still calling it Sears Tower.

You'll never know why.

If they were changing the name to anything, it should be Wal-Mart Tower instead of Sears Tower.

News - The kid who FAILED!
« Reply #696 on: March 26, 2009, 01:19:31 pm »
On Newgrounds a site made for flash animation and everything just got extreme March 17 when a kid named Thomas Briggs (Sirtom93) threaten to "Burn down" his school building. He posted on NG that he was gonna burn it down and he made a video of him holding a Gasoline tank,a knife, and a lighter. Deckheadtottie called the police and the school from his Dover home. A interview with the admin (Wade Fulp) says what he thinks of this

"Shame Deckheadtottie isn't getting more recognition in the media. He was the one who called sirtom93's school and that seemed to be the action that really got the ball rolling to stop sirtom93. I believe deckheadtottie also relayed the most information about sirtom93 to the police and the school." - Wade Fulp

Time: EST (GMT)

March 17th

6:40 AM (10:40 AM)
Thomas Briggs, aka sirtom93, claims that he's gonna burn his school down at 11:30 AM GMT. Also made a thread (http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1039574)

6:58 AM (10:58 AM)
Rig calls the Norfolk cops.

7:07 AM (11:07 AM)
deckheadtottie calls the cops.

7:14 AM (11:14 AM)
Wade provides information to deckheadtottie, who relays to cops.

7:30 AM (11:30 AM)
Thomas Briggs personal info found, relayed to cops via the thread and the school via deckheadtottie.

10:52 AM (2:52 PM)
School phones deckheadtottie and informs him that the matter is being dealt with and the police are involved.

11:40 AM (3:40 PM)
Thomas Briggs arrested before damage dealt. Detective calls me asking for information about other NG users.

12:10 PM (4:10 PM)
The school phones deckheadtottie and says the matter has been dealt with, thanks to NG.

12:40 PM (4:40 PM)
One of the users in question phones the detective themselves, second user a mystery

3:09 PM (7:09 PM)
Am told that Thomas Briggs will be in custody overnight, evidence still being collected.

Tom is still in custody, under the mental health act.
