The space race
« on: March 24, 2007, 06:23:12 pm »
I think that there might be an important part of spore that is missing. The space race, U.S vs. the Russians for example. I know that you can have global wars, and eventually take over your planet.
What I am curious about, is can your race and an enemys culture on your planet, fight for the control of space. ICBMS, moon missions, etc. It could be an interesting challenge if it was in spore.

I know you can build colonies with your ufo, what about having them launched (randomly) from your solar system, where you could hunt for them to see in any have survived on any planets

Just think about it this way:
Cell phase: Going from cellular to multicelled and even complex land organisms took MILLIONS of years.
Creature Phase: The appearance of the first intelligent creatures also took a long time (probably on the order of millions of years as well)
Tribal: The first "cooperative" (duno what else you'd call it) organisms probably took tens of thousands of years to evolve after that.
City/Civ: Cities and civilizations also took many thousands of years to appear and grow/spread...

on the other hand: the space race (notably the Earth's) only lasted about 50 years or so, we are already moving into more cooperative efforts to explore the cosmos, so to make the game's sense of scale realistic, it would be hard to include this kind of thing.
Also, I think you have to have conquered your entire planet already before being able to use the UFO...

what are the chances that the username spore hadn't already been taken? ::) :D

Ummm yeah, fortunately spore doesn't take place on Earth, I'm sure other species would be less divided and would probably all band together to make it to space.

Still, it seems like a nice idea.

Perhaps Will is trying to tell us we must band together as a planet and a species in order to reach our Space Age (i.e., reliable easy space transportation, not just occasional and unmanned missions here or there)?  World peace through video games.  :)

You can build the ufo before you are the ruler of your planet, i think there is some pictures at ign where the player builds a ufo and destroys the other race(or the same species, don't remember)

but maybe they was having peace and then betrayed..?

conquering the entire planet to get to the space age stage is bull****....

That is just one way of killing the fun ... a space civ dont require an entire planet.

Well how should we know? We (Humans) aren't a space civ yet, and no one country has conquered the earth yet. Or have they? (Que weird alien woo sound)

Any county could dominate space, if enough resources were invested in the project. Some large companies could even do it. There should be the opportunity for more than one civilisation to conquer space. Just imagine if another country had first contact, they would benefit from technology first and could therefore win the space race.
