What do the little stars symbolize under our names?

How much you post. Your rank, so to speak. Steve has 5 stars because on this site, he's God.

Yes, the stars are your rank based upon posts. I was thinking of taking it out ... if I keep it in I'll probably change the stars into something gaming-related.

However, what is more fun is your "text rank" (i.e. "Pong Paddle") which is also based upon total posts. The ranks basically start out with the very start of gaming (Pong) and then continue to advance over time. However ... there are ... a lot of ranks. A lot. Right now getting 500 posts will only take you into gaming from 1980 (not "the 80s", rather "1980"). So it will take you quite some time to get up to modern gaming terms. A very, very, very long time!

They also slow down a bit as you continue to post, but I think they're fun and give you something to look forward to (think of it as "leveling up").

So Steve if you're God on this site, is that why your avatar is Ned Flanders? You should replace the stars with good old Mario symbols, like coins, mushrooms, fire-flowers, feathers, racoon suites, the list goes on.

Heh, I'm a huge Simpsons fan, and I had it from another site. So I ended up using it for now. I'm going to have a new one made up later next week which will reflect this site better. But for now it's fine.

Hum, that is an excellent idea!

Ok, first a coin, then a power mushroom, then a fire flower, brown leaf thing, and finally an extra life mushroom. How's that?

I think Scipion has got a great idea. You should impliment something like that, Steve. I'll even find you the image files. What are the dimensions you want?

Dimensions eh? The bigger the better I guess. I can always scale down. However, they will each need to be 12x12 pixels in size. Don't go through too much trouble however, if you get them and send them my way I can look at them and see what I can do with them.

I have been actually spending an hour trying to fix up an icon but it just doesn't look good on-screen. I don't want you to go through too much trouble and then I find out that in the end it "just doesn't work".

I'm glad eveyrone likes my idea. I was trying to think of something that wouldn't be too hard to make into a size that small but still be recognizable.

I've got some, Steve, but I think you'll have to resize most of them. Also, you may have to edit them so that the white areas are transparent. Sorry about that. I hope these suffice. ;)

All of these are in the 18x18 or 18x?/?x18 areas.

So is it like one star for every houndred posts or something? I haven't figured it out yet. I wish I still had my Battlezone Commander title...oh well, I'm sure another cool one will come along.

Yeah, I like how they came out. It's a nice nod to video games. I will try to upgrade the rest of the forums towards that direction over time, but it's a semi-slow process right now (I'm split between the main site, the podcast, and the forums). I try to spend equal time on each but once the main site is closer to "completion" (when is a site ever totally finished) I can spend more time on the forum and podcasts.

Steve, I have to be honest, I kinda liked it a little better before when you had the background the same color as everything else.

With Internet Explorer, all the stuff in the middle has you beige colored background. Behind that however there is a black background, making it seem like there's two vertical balck bars on the sides.

Ah, there are two black bars on the side. It was a little too pale on that page, needed to add something. Don't worry, I'm not nearly done with the site, that design will change.
