Man recites pi from memory to 83,431 places
« on: July 08, 2005, 07:24:30 am »
Well, the headline sort of says it all. That is freaking insane, how/why would this guy remember pi in such detail?

That's pretty sad.  I mean what on earth is the point?  There isn't... unless he gets paid to do it, which i presume he doesn't.  What an... interesting? hobby.

I know somebody who knows it to the 1000th or something like that. He says he memorizes it like a song. I guess that works.

Man that guy must have some crazy memory.

Of course it took him longer because every time he annouced a digit he had to stop and announce "That's 80, 80 digits! Ha Ha Ha"
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

Makes you wonder who was checking to make sure he was doing it right for all you know after say about 50 or so places he could probably just yell out any number and know one would really know.

They probably had a computer to check it.

You know, I should just make a program to recite pi to like 1 million decimals, then who's got the memory?

If it said one decimal a second, nonstop, it would take over 11 1/2 days.

Yes, but computers are a lot faster than that. Mine can write the numbers 0 to 99,999,999 to a file in 21 seconds.

Edit: I just got it to do it in 16 seconds, so you get the idea. Plus it's not just writing 1 digit every time.

Yes, but it wasn't speaking it. That is what I was implying.

Go for a billion, it would take approximately 4 hours 26 minutes and 40 seconds.

Well, yes, it would be slower if it had to speak them.

It did 0-999,999,999 in 208 seconds and I got a file that's 957 megs.
