A Lego MMO in the works...
« on: March 08, 2007, 07:48:00 am »
http://kotaku.com/gaming/gdc07/talking-lego-mmo-242385.php

Apparently a Lego MMO is in the works. Personaly, I am somewhat skeptical of the scope the game will acheive. Though I am hopeful being that I loved to play with Lego toys for most of my childhood. :3

This has definately caught my interests. Anyone have anything to add?

Seriously, there was this old Lego Creator and it was totally AWSOME.  If it is like that I would play.

And there's BlockCAD, which I find easier to build with, although I haven't played with either for a couple of years.

Did you say legos? I didn't see it, but did you? You know what happens if you do..

Anyway about the actual MMO I thought it would be intersting until I saw who was making it. "NetDevil". That's right the people who managed to kill a MMO about cars with big guns is making this. If they can't make Auto Assault work why do they think they can do this?  If it was by anyone else I might show more interst but Netdevils absolute lack of skill in making an MMO kinda put me off it.

Yeah, it's legos. Saying I have ten lego is just weird, makes it sound like legos is a type of animal.

You mean this:

You got it when you went to www.legos.com
You can also click here to go directly to the part of the Wikipedia article where this is discussed.

I don't mind what it's called, but Legos sounds odd to me, and LEGO bricks sounds better.
But it seems a bit too unimportant to hijack a thread for it...

Anyway, LEGO MMO!
Sounds cool, as long as they don't try to implement those Star Wars and Harry Potter LEGO sets, and instead just let you build you're own world. A sort of Multiplayer LEGO Creator game.

I refuse to let a company control my pronunciation of a word.  What next, I can only build things that are in the manuals*?  Screw you LEGO!

Sincerely, that guy who thoroughly enjoys LEGOS.

*Clearly this part is a joke, I recognize that LEGO was founded with free form design in mind.  But I'll still pronounce/spell it how I want.

That's the one, thanks Didero. I don't get that message anymore, if I try and go there I get a message saying I probably meant lego.com and they are forwarding it to me.

Anyway now that everyone is well versed on the actual name.. it still doesn't change my opinion that NetDevil will end up screwing it up. Auto Assault has had an amazing four updates since release.  I don't even know how the game would play, I'd imagine it would be similar to Second Life or  The Sims Online.. but for all I know it could be like LEGO Star Wars (without the Star Wars). Either way, I'm going to wait until I learn more about it and then if I do like what I hear I'll wait for a while after release.. I don't like NetDevil after Auto Assault  :-\

I hope it's like Lego star wars without the star wars, but with the option to build your own things with bricks bought using in game currency.  Think of it, launching and attack from a digital version of that Lego base you built when you were eight with the tank you made when you were eleven.  I just hope they don't put some stupid story around it, Legos should be free form.

It occured to me that it might not be anything like lego star wars if they are trying to keep it family friendly.  That might mean they don't add any sort of weapon in.. or if they do it's very unlikely you could use it against other people.

I'm pretty sure that went 'Le-le-lego!' twice, and not 'legos' at the end. But I'm going to check though, I've got that game lying around somewhere.

Anyway, Lego Universe looks interesting. Let's just hope there won't be too many people building phallic symbols from Lego in the game though ::)

Looks interesting, but they really haven't said enough about it for me to get excited over it.  We still don't know how anything works in the game.  Personally, I hope it's more about exploration and creation, rather than combat, like we see in most MMO's.  Going by the trailer, there does seem to be some sort of combat system, and if there is, I hope it's more of a Lego Star Wars type thing, rather than a typical MMO battle system.

Also, I hope there's no monthly fee.  I don't get why so many online games use this, a lot of the time it seems unncessary. They only make us pay monthly because they can.  I do understand it in some cases, but seriously..

I don't see how it would work, but it'd be fun.

Anyway, you play with lego, not legos. That's just silly. It's like fish. You don't say fishes.

Actually, you play with LEGO Bricks.

This actually looks pretty cool. If it's free to play or maybe with just an entrance fee that'd be cool. I can't see myself paying monthly for this though.

Wow, this looks pretty cool. I've loved LEGOS Bricks ever since i was a kid. I would build mechs and little LEGOS Bricks man armies, with massive LEGOS Bricks fortresses. Even working catapults that fired LEGOS Bricks. Hopefully they allow a lot of freedom in creation and utilization of your LEGOS Bricks, and not turn it into Toontown with a few LEGOS Bricks thrown in for good measure.
