I really enjoy Simcity 4. While I have many fond memories of the original Simcity on the SNES, I find that 2000 and 3000 were terribly hokey and boring.
At least in 4, I will actually have a feeling of accomplishment after fixing a major problem in my roads or my budget or amount of landfills or whatever. Plus the connecting regions feature can have your cities continuously growing (building a city in a nearby region with mostly industry will give them all the pollution, with your residential in a seperate region travelling to the industry region for work with no pollution damages).
Bit of an exploit, but I suck at it otherwise.

I like the Sims 2 as well. It seems to be a huge improvement over the first one.
But I voted Simcity 4.

I voted SC4(only with rush hour by the way). SC2000 comes on a close 2nd place and I think the original sims on 3rd

A "None" option? oh come on, you had to enjoy ONE of those games! Not even the ORIGINAL Sim City?!

I had considered adding 'Streets of Sim City' but I thought it was cooler to have only titles that started with "Sim"

I have Sim City 4 and rarely play it, while I had Sim City 2000 years ago and I spent countless hours on it. Even though it had less features  for some reason I liked it more then (although I wouldn't play it NOW, after playing #4). But sometimes it's WHEN a game is the best that makes it the best, not re-playability over time.

I'd put Simlife as a contenter if it would run on XP or Win2000. You needed to be a bio-geek to enjoy it.

Unfortunately, all of those games have aged so much except maybe Sim Ant, Sim Tower, and Sim Copter. My personal three favorite Sim games... that is.. before The Sims 2 came out.

I enjoyed the original Sims like everyone else, but found it almost immediately lacking in so many areas that I stopped playing after the first expansion pack. It was really a featureless game with a lot of customizability to it, but the core game kept making it boring and repetative. It felt like a doll house game except that I was restricted entirely to managing needs.

Not so much in The Sims 2 is there as much micromanagement and strife that I've had in the first one. With the additional of wants and fears and aspirations, I can effectively purchase a device that refreshes my Sims needs whenever I choose to do so -- which is a massive relief. The game has been made much easier and user friendly with this system in mind, because now I have an idea of what drives my Sims onward and they have a little more personality themselves.

The thing about The Sims 2 that will push that game further and further, is that the developers are constantly adding features to the game as they go, which keeps fans the fans happy while they themselves build the amazing custom content that polishes the game.
