and it actually looks like it plays like Gears of War.

Heh, are you kidding? :D

The game plays nothing like Gears of War! Maybe you haven't seen some of the gameplay videos? Because it is a very, very different game.

Not so tactical maybe, but it definetely has similarities, with all the shooting and taking cover behind objects, etc.
I'll also point out once again, that the battle system was actually created by Pandamic, the creators of Gears of War.

Erm...it was Epic who made Gears of War, not Pandemic. ;)

And I see no similarities between gameplay in the two other than that both have guns in them. Gears of War has stop 'n pop, cover-based gameplay. Mass Effect has lock-on, and the game has no special cover feature like in Gears of War. They are two totally different games.

*Cough* Ending-to-KOTOR 2 *cough*

Excuse me, sorry about that  :P

But seriously, I know how rushed they where on that. I herd most of the stuff is on the disk, and someone is making the true ending to KOTOR 2

Anyway, I can't wait for mass effect

Heh...before I knew anything about Mass Effect, I thought that Bioware was working on Bioshock.

Ha! Get it? Yeah, that one had me confused for a while... :-\

I really hope the rumored May release date is true, although Forza 2 is coming out in May as well, so it may be unlikely for Microsoft to release two of its published games in the same month (despite how different they are).

But I'll be plenty occupied with Oblivion (and soon the Shivering Isles) until then! :)

Obsidian developed Kotor 2, not BioWare. Obsidian also developed NWN2, and yes they seem to have some issues with the endings of there games.

More to the point, Mass Effect is looking great in story, visual, and game play departments. Im intrested in seeing how it works all together in the final product. But if BioWare's track record is any indication, I think were in store for a block buster game.
We create reality, reality does not create us. Thus is the question, if we stop beleving in reality, then what are our limitations on pursuing our dreams?

Based on the latest gameplay vids I've seen, I would compare its combat to something like GRAW moreso than I would Gears. Yes, there's cover being taken, but it's not a full-fledged cover system, and the necessity of preparing strategies with your cohorts reminds me of doing so in GRAW. Which is hardly a bad thing. I don't see it as turn-based as some people have alleged; it appears far more tactile than that in how it moves and how the action flows.

I think that the main strategy (as this is an RPG) will be in how you customize your weapons; not necessarily how you aim your gun.

The game has to release relatively soon though! Microsoft can't be holding out Halo 3, Too Human, Fable 2, and Mass Effect for Q4!

I'm really looking forward to this because of my love of the previous two KOTORs. Before the first one, my idea of an RPG was Skies of Arcadia or Final Fantasy, both of which I enjoyed, but it was nothing special to me. I much prefer this style of RPG over the linear, random battle turn-based combat of the Japanese flavor. I like being involved with the characters and actually affecting the story to a degree. And those seem to be major aspects of Mass Effect. So sweet!

By the way, KOTOR II was made by Obsidian; the ending wasn't Bioware's fault. Although the ending to the first one wasn't all that great either.

Also the ending wasn't so much Obsidians faults as much as it was the jerks at lucas Arts pushing them to release for the holidays even though it wasn't finished.
