I'll see if I can find a link to one of my favorite short stories. It's called Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut.

EDIT: After you read, you can notice a lot of little nuances the arthour put in. For example: the main characters only talk in "said's".

I read that one before.  Didn't know it was Vonnegut.

Harrison Bergeron is one of the best short stories ever. It's so true!

Anyway, "Guts" by Chuck Palahniuk it's a great horror short. Google it yourself, I don't think I can link to it.

Asimov's The Last Question (short story)
« Reply #20 on: August 06, 2007, 05:53:57 am »
I read this short story some time ago, and happened upon it again late last week while browsing the Internet.  It's a personal favorite, since it is so expansive while still being realtively short.  Asimov's own words describe it best:

Quote from: Isaac Asimov
This is by far my favorite story of all those I have written.

After all, I undertook to tell several trillion years of human history in the space of a short story and I leave it to you as to how well I succeeded. I also undertook another task, but I won't tell you what that was lest l spoil the story for you.

It is a curious fact that innumerable readers have asked me if I wrote this story. They seem never to remember the title of the story or (for sure) the author, except for the vague thought it might be me. But, of course, they never forget the story itself especially the ending. The idea seems to drown out everything -- and I'm satisfied that it should.

Read "The Last Question" here.

Let's see...

Get yelled at for necrobumping.

OR

Get yelled at for posting a new topic.

Ok I give up.  I'll just assume from now on that any possible topic has already been covered and disregard either option. ;)

Get this into your head: Posting a new topic is bad. Posting in an old one is not. Claiming that you didn't want to be shouted at for bumping a topic is not an excuse.

And this would go in the books section anyway. Which is where the original is. I think it's like best short stories or something like that.

Necroing is when you bring up an old topic without contributing anything significant to it, it's excusable when you bring something to the topic that hasn't already been discussed, and can be discussed quite well. So basically you can bump the old topic as long as you're contributing enough to it for the bump to be justified.

If someone can point me to where this can be merged, I will gladly move it there.
