Sentience
« on: June 27, 2005, 01:43:45 pm »
Hi guys,
Just had a question I wasn't sure about. I just wanted to know if it would ever be possible for a computer-controlled species on your home planet could ever gain sentience. Would this be a possibility if you took too long to gain sentience?
Thanks guys,
-Dark

I'm almost 100% positive the answer is no.  Since we know for a fact that only one sentient species is allowed to evolve on each planet, it is only logical to assume that your species will always be the one to get there. (They wouldn't to make it impossible for you to not play the rest of the stages just because you take your time.)

Though it might be interesting to play a non-sentient creature on a world with sentient beings... be the monster attacking the villagers :)

i thought it would be intrested to have to race to evolve sentience, because then you have to make the choice between adding to your brain power and being weaker against the other species but evolving sentience if you survive that long, OR adding killing bits on and becoming the dominant species evolving sentience but while you evolved weapons another race may have evolved brains and beat you to it..

I'm gonna have to agree with Ovi on this one. With the restriction on just the one sentient species, then it has to be yours for gameplay reasons.

it would be cool if you could have it as an option, then it would add an extra layer to the game if you arn't fast enough

An extra layer that eliminates 3 or 4 other layers.

i still wonder why game play restrictions are not modible under gameplay options.
people find ways around them anyway, case in point *modded the reverse thrust option in freelancer to give huge forward thrust*
or Max Payne Infinite bullet time, the community always finds a way so why not make it easy ?

The idea is to mix one ingredient that will burn very fast with a second ingredient that will supply enough oxygen for that burning. This burns so fast, it's an explosion.

Because the programmers want people to have a challenge so they put the restrictions in to give the game some difficultly level whats the point if games are so easy.

that's why it's an option, adds a challenge But i geuss if you had a really good creature it could piss you off.
