A cold war could be a very interesting dynamic indeed.  The prospect of having an annoying adversary, whom you're constantly confronting as you both attempt to expand, could be seriously impacted by the presense of ultra-destructive weapons.  How you deal with such species could be radically affected if nuclear and planet-removal weapons were governed by some kind of intergalactic ban, which when violated could cause system-wide repurcussions.  You could get into a situation where you and all of your rivals are surrounded by each other's territory, ripe for the striking, and each of you is just waiting for the other to make the first move so you can wipe them out of existence.

....  cool.   ;)

Well, as we know, you could obviousl implement itby like finding and tribal race and bumping them into the Civ era, you could watch everything un-fold.

it would be nice to get oen nation of a planet and give them lots of technology, let them do lots of conquering until they have completed world domination, then conquer them in one swoop.

I'm sure all ingame cold wars will be entirely psychologically envisioned by the player to make it more interesting.

The scenario:
Civ stage. Your civilisation is the power.. but then another civilisation becomes equal to or stronger than you. They don't respond to you well in communications, they have big nasty weapons, but aren't attacking you. Bam - cold war.

I don't know if cold wars will be implemented, but I think you can drop some nukes, but not too many. ::)

For those who want to get their nuclear holocaust on, check out the demo of DEFCON at http://www.everybody-dies.com/

I bet it will require the player envisioning it, but I think it would add a layer of social depth to the game.

I have the full game, they are now creating a game where they merged their previous games into one game.  ;D (Uplink, Darwinia, Defcon)

I really hope that nukes are in the game.  I would also agree that overuse of them should result on catastrophic effects on the planet, and eventually one might even have to colonise another to survive.

Agreed. This would be too huge of a species development to just leave out.
