Lemme see now... The fact I'm at home and won't see most of my friends until new years eve, the fact that I have to spend time with my family, the fact that TV shoves festive cheer down your throats, the fact that it's frowned telling someone dressed as Santa to f*** off, because some charity is cashing in on the season despite the fact it has nothing to do with said season (incidentally he opened by asking me and my friend if me and her wanted to be new age porn stars, so I'm not at fault), the fact that I actually have to pretend to give a s*** about the rest of the world or receive a long winded and ridiculously hypocritical rant about how people around the world don't have as much as I do, the fact that the worst song ever (Do they know it's Christmas time) is trotted out ever f***ing year, the fact that every soap seems to compete with each over to have the most depressing story line, the fact that people insist I not only acknowledge this season, but, actively participate in it, the fact that again the UK is being f***ed over by games companies and all the good games that I want, which are out in America, won't be here until February, so I can't even get what I want as a Christmas gift, the fact that I'm expected to buy gifts for people I don't even speak to most of the year and finally the fact that the true meaning of this holiday has been brutally mutilated and raped by a combination of political correctness gone mad, shameless whoring commercialism and a massive decline in peoples overall willingness to give a toss about anything.

Merry Christmas, and now I feel like getting drunk (something which is at least traditional)
What have you got against intellectual midgets? They're quite smart little guys as far as i can tell.

political correctness. Don't give this "family" bs, it's about the birth of Jesus, and therefore Christianity. I really, really despise the terms "festive season" and "seasons greetings". Please ladym, change your avatar.

agreed.

And I know he was the messiah, I just personally believe that he was merely a good person that was remembered.

I don't hate Christmas. I don't expect gifts so I'm very happy to receive one or a card because that means somebody thought about me. I give people gifts because I love to do it not out obligation. The TV can be turned off and the music can be turned off if its too much.
Try to appreciate what you do have and not what you don't. Being thankful for what you have can be as simple as realizing you can see and hear and walk and talk. It doesn't have to be the tangible things in your room.  :)

PS.. I'm not changing my avatar/slogan. It has nothing to do with political correctness, it's been around for many years. It's the phrase I chose to use and it's just as valid as Merry Christmas. It covers the whole season, Christmas to New Year.

Just out of curiosity, how does an atheists celebration of Christmas differ from a theists? That is, if you have a good idea of both sides.

The "Happy Holidays" deal doesn't annoy me, sometimes. If you know someone is Christian or you yourself are, don't be afraid to say it. However, happy holidays and the non-denominational specific greetings are great for commercial reasons, as they don't alienate anyone.

The only thing I hate about Christmas is... the lack of Wiis.

I don't celebrate it because Christmas has turned into an excuse for people to be forgiven for being jerks. As for the morals of giving, kindness and good cheer, I'm all for it. Just don't commercialize it and reserve it for one month out of the year. Even now people are forgetting what they supposedly purposed Christmas to be about.

I only really hate it when you find christmas decorations up in like October. I'll let the end of November slide maybe if its less than 30 days but anything before December 1st is not needed.

I dont want to be over-dramatic but I really dont like christmas. I hate the commercial greed that drives it and the associated demand it puts on me to feel obliged to do buy something for someone where I would've otherwise just prefered to enjoy their company.

I hate the dip into cornball television and cinema viewing that occurs as everyone is reminded of how much they owe a man who died for people I dont know's sins 2000 years ago (i dont understand how us brutally killing God's own son washed clean our sins...isn't god meant to be all forgiving?) and the even more fervent worshipping of the commercial god named santa clause that people celebrate far more than the birth of jesus.

What I like is the feeling of togetherness that this holiday brings, the need to just be around the people you love and the amount of food and alcohol that will certainly be consumed. I like the fact I dont have to work.
Dont look at me, I'm irrelevant!

which reminds me, that's the other thing i don't like about Christmas...

I hate how people get real mean at Christmas, you go to the shopping centre and get elbowed and shoved and scowled at :( and when you havent much money because all the bills come at Christmas and you have to buy your neices and nephews presents with a small budget and what you think is fun and interesting they turn their noses up at and their facial expression was "who got me this rubbish?" I decided after that Christmas that I would never get my family anything ever again and since that day Ive never had to stress about getting presents or having to face crowded shopping centres and all is well.
Good Grief!

I disagree. Although that is what Christmas is about, it is basically just an excuse to have a holiday in Winter. Holidays and celebrations of winter have been around since the dawn of man.

Oh and operaghost, people celebrate Christmas because it has to do more with the spirit of giving instead of religion. Chanukah was to do allot with Jewish religion.

But its summer here.

Thats right, it doesnt seem like Christmas here because its the hottest time of the year in December, for goodness sake we have bushfires here right now, you dont have bushfires and heatwaves at Christmas time - its supposed to be snowing and wintery.
Good Grief!
