I saw this video earlier in the week and I feel like it is kind of missing the point of most complaints.

It's not that CGI sucks. It's that too many studios and directors rely on it as a crutch and try to do too much with CGI. You use CGI for touch-ups and for general things like background (literally), but you don't want to bring CGI too far to the front (especially if you don't have to) or else it runs the risk of looking terrible.

Also, I don't know about you guys, but I can see most CG. Maybe it's because I've played a lot of video games and lived through its modern development in a more intimate fashion than your general moviegoer. But I see a lot of the CG, good and bad. It still sticks out, but if it is being used logically and/or well, it doesn't really matter.

I still say, after all these years, some of the best use of CG was in Forrest Gump.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Oh hey, RocketJump.

Pat, I think you and Freddie are saying largely the same thing. You talk about how moviemakers use CG too much in the focus of the shot. The whole point of the video is that when CGI is best used, it's used in the background or in tandem with other techniques so that it's not the focus of the shot and it's no longer so obvious. It's that you can't complain about CG if you don't know it's there and the only CG most people know is there is the bad kind, which is the reason behind the negativity.

Thunderfoot is the best of us.

Closer video of the explosion via LiveLeak. Disturbing footage, so be advised. The person that filmed this died, according to the source. You can see toward the end of this short clip everything in front of them being blown apart as the wave approaches. Terrifying.

Aerial view of the aftermath also courtesy of LiveLeak.
