I need a English person to translate this into English so I can translate this into American.

They sound a bit like people from the West Country.

The link I clicked that took me there was saying that those guys are, perhaps, some of the only people remaining that speak a language resembling the older forms of what we'd recognize as English. Not sure if it's true, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Eh, that stuff about "American is closer to original English than modern English is" seems like a load of bull. They've both been evolving in semi-separation for the same amount of time.

It's the linguistic version of "If people evolved from monkeys then how come there are still monkeys?".

Checkmate Yankees.

Plus, isn't modern English (your English) derived from a King with a speech impediment?

That's another one of those "things" I hear.

Done.

Never heard that before. Modern English (as in the actual language, so that includes Americans and Aussies and whatever else) is partially a result of a bunch of French nobility invading and speaking beforetimes English with a French accent (or what counted as a French accent back in the day).

So... blame the French. That's my takeaway from this.

English pronounciation has changed a lot in some few hundred years.

Look at Shakespeare's stuff- expecting "hour" and "whore" to  be homonyms, among other things.

Aw wow this is really interesting! Thank you for posting.

I love reading and hearing about linguistics. Living in an area with a crapload of accents does that to you.

Space!
Nefarious?  Nearly.  Ne’er-do-well?  Never!  Neither nearly names this narrator.  Naive and knowledgeable, notorious and inscrutable, this nascent Nero is known naturally as Neoadept.
