That "50% of marriages end in divorce" statistic has always seemed a bit fishy to me.  It's too easy, too rounded off.  And the statistic I'd be more interested in is how many first time marriages end in divorce.  But it turns out that the answer seems to be a bit more complicated than some anecdotal 50/50 chance.  After a quick search here's the least terrible article I found:

From what I remember of A-Level sociology, such a high divorce rate was also attributed to serial monogamy - people weren't staying divorced, they would soon find themselves in another (no more stable) relationship.

Though that article seems to give good reasons as well, especially since the economic downturn.

Ted talks are great since they at least require you to prove your credentials,TedX talks however can be done by anybody.
