Now someone needs to write a team-up between Kraven the Hunter and Amazoness.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

This guy is awesome! Saw one of his shows on PBS. Guess he lived there in the Alaska Wilderness from 1968 to 1999! His place is now a historical landmark.

Sometimes I have a strong desire to just go.. do that. Somewhere.
I don't know why.

When I was a kid, we grew up next to some woods. We lived at the base of a mountain. I loved to get a good petrified stick, shape it a little, and then go hack away the stinging nettle and ferns in a small area.
We'd then clear away all the fallen logs, sticks, leaves, and other clutter. Never much considered flattening the ground.
It was satisfying seeing the progress over time.

If I ever get stranded on a desert island, I think I might be a pretty good worker.
Probably wouldn't be able to hunt worth a **** though, so I'd starve pretty quick. But hey!

Yeah.

While I'm not knocking the idea, you guys might want to read "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer.
It's a non-fictional account of the life of someone who tried to do that very thing within the last 20 years, and not so successfully.

There's nothing really wrong with romanticizing the notion of surviving in the wilderness, and I'm sure you guys would be smart enough to prepare yourselves against the inherent dangers in case you ever actually did try to do something like this, but it always helps to read a precautionary tale or two.

Also, it's just a friggin awesome read.

We could always go as a group. There is a heck of a whole lot of empty land up in Northern Maine.

I was thinking we'd do it in an area that doesn't get 60 to 90 inches of snow per year.

Also don't run with scissors and don't play outside in lightning storms.

But in all seriousness, read the book. It's really good.

We could always go as a group. There is a heck of a whole lot of empty land up in Northern Maine.

Back in Boy Scouts I went on a week long trip into the wilderness with 4 other boy scouts and 2 adults. Out in the deep wilderness is awesome and hard, but very rewarding. As a small group we had to depend upon each other and carry not only out own personal stuff but stuff for the group. Note it was in the Sierra Nevadas where it can be both hot and cold. At mid week we stayed at a glacial lake for 2 days to rest. It was very fun. Note this was back when I was like 16.

One of the scouts who was with us later went into the service and was killed in the Afghanistan in 2007. It was a real shame since he went to West Point and was both extremely smart and athletic. He was very humble too and would help carry more than his share of the weight on the trip. Here is a picture of him.

But instead of going to live in the woods, we'll all just play some more minecraft.
Probably not a Goat, either.
