Amphibians...Reptiles...Mammals?
« on: December 08, 2006, 10:55:33 pm »
I was looking through the "Spore Figurines" thread, and I went to the article, where I found the following comment:
"One thing concerns me. It seems every creature is reptilian in nature. Is Mammalian life not possible?"
First order of business: Is there any hair in spore?
Also, will there be a way to tell what type your creature is, mammal, reptile, amphibian?
If so, could specific traits be attached to each kind, so for example, if your creature is classified as reptile, would being cold-blooded have any effect on gameplay?

I'm not sure this has really been covered by the devs yet. I think as sltlamina says though there is at least fur in Spore. But everything hatches from eggs so... I would think it just won't be defined, but you could still make creatures that look mammalian.

I don't think they will go in depth with warm blooded vs cold blooded. Only because there might be a bunch of different alien kinda of blooded stuff also and this goes under the same idea as organs. Where pretty much all the insides we will be dealing with is the bones/spine when shaping the body and the brain when increasing in intelligence. I don't think we will be choosing where things will go etc inside. It will just be thee unseen.

Here are some feathers and fur. They look like they are ascetics only though.

your "mammal" creature can still be a mammal if it lays eggs, it will just be called a monotrem (sp?)

The whole "warm blood" vs "cold blood" and "eggs" vs "live births" will probably be introduced in expansion packs. Just be happy there is fur, at least. The people at Maxis already have a bunch of stuff to do already, and they don't want to delay the process any more than it already has. It's already projected for Q3 2007. With what we're talking about, if they wanted to put it into the first release, they'd have to push it to somewhere in 2008, and that'd make some people very angry... Angry enough to buy an SVD rifle and introduce it to Will Wright.
Schrodinger will kill you like a cat in a box. Maybe.

Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection.

Televison - A medium. So called because it is neither rare nor well-done.

Keep an open mind. Just make sure it's not so open your brain falls out.

you must also keep in mind that the eggs are just representations of birth.

exactly, having your creature lays eggs keeps spore from having to figure out what your creature would look like pregnant (which would not be easy) and adds the element of protecting your nest. Plus I would rather click on the egg to design the next generation rather than clicking on a bulging stomach

The game has fur and feathers. I doubt that you will get to decide what kind of creature you have. Fur, feathers, scales, and other things like that just determine the look of your creature.
