The Sims for Wii - MySims

Isn't the building editor in the forthcoming The Sims for Wii sliiightly Spore-like? (a very dumbed-down version, but hey!)

I can see why you'd say that, but I don't really see a strong resemblance.

That said, I really, really like it.

The first thing that came to my mind is that this game could be in direct competition to Animal Crossing. I guess this version of the Sims is heading to new gamestyle function.

I'm sitting here reading the new Nintendo Power magazine about this game. It's called My Sim. It's a different version of the sims we all know. The people look like lego people.

"The inhabitants of MySims are decidely not grown up or realistic. They're more the stuff of children's book illistrations crossed with manga."

Looks like fun, I'll probably try it out.

I doubt Will Wright had anything to to go with it, he said a while ago that he only checked in on the The Sims every now and then, or did I dream that?

I was sure I read in an article that the sims for the wii would be like the ones on pc. But this....this kinda looks like something I could've downloaded off the internet like Pangya.

It's definately an EA thing, the music is similar and the things you do but the little people are different.

Well I just said EA because thats what was on the website. "EA Games" It's even better if Maxis did it.

Isn't Maxis owned by EA?  So by saying EA, LadyM could have meant Maxis in the first place, right?

Guess what? I get to go to EA in San Francisco in two weeks and attend the Blogger's Day event about the MySims game. I'll get to meet the game designers and play the game before it comes out. I'll do a report on everything with pictures that maybe will go on the front page of the website.  :)

Steve got the offer from EA and offered to me. He thought I would enjoy it since I do alot with the Sims. I think maybe we can get front page updated. I'll write it and see where it ends up.

You have to ask about online support, will it mirror that of Animal Crossing DS or will it be something different altogether?

In any case, I wonder if there will be a PC version. I been slowly tearing myself away from handhelds and consoles for pure PC Gaming.

So we want to know about motion function, unique features, online playability and a PC version. I was wondering about the online playability myself, would we be able to visit other towns, send content to each other, play multiple towns and if the DS and Wii versions will be able to connect and make anything special happen.

Any other questions? Here is the website if you want to look it over.

How easy will it be to design or build?

I would imagine it's not so easy on a DS and would need to be adjusted accordingly.

The Nintendo Power article says the DS version will be a vacation resort that needs your help to bring in visitors. I'm wondering if you will be able to connect the two so your Sim can go on vacation in your DS.

Any more questions? I leave on Thursday morning.

The trip to EA was really cool. There were 7 of us that got to attend the first Blogger’s Day event and meet the game developers and get some hands on game play.

The MySims game was created specifically for Nintendo. The game design stated a year and a half ago before we even knew what a Mii looked like. They wanted to re-create the Sims to look more Nintendo-esque and the cute little Sims in the game is what they came up with. You play the game with one Sim that is customizable with different hair, skin and facial features. You can change the look of your sim at anytime during the game by standing in front of a mirror. One of the cool features is a random button. It comes up with some pretty funny combinations. The Sims have no gender so you can get very creative in how you dress them. The whole game promotes creativity on many levels.

(This picture shows how the Sims changed from Sims1 to Sims2 to MySims. How you can still tell who it is supposed to be.)

(In the Create-a-Sim part of the game, you can change the look and voice of your sim)

Once you have your Sim made you start the game in a run down town that needs your help to get its 5 star status back. The game centers around a thing called Essense. There are six Essenses that come into play. You have to try to get your town to reflect one of these essences. If your making a fun town, you want to focus on fun items and you will have fun Sims living there. There are 80 town sims that you can meet during the game. They show up at the hotel and you can ask them to move into your town. You can only have 27 living there at one time. If you meet another sim you want to move in then you have to ask someone else to move out.

The town sims have two likes and one dislike. An example is they might be a fun sim and also like tasty things. Their dislike might be spooky things. If you decorate their house with a flavor they like, they will be happy, if not you can make them unhappy. You cant kill or torture any of these Sims but you can make them very unhappy. Once you have moved them in, you can talk to them and they will ask you for things. You can make the things they want in your workshop with the blueprint they give you and some essesnse that you must find. Once you give them the requested item, they will be happy and you can unlock things like clothing, blueprints and more playable levels. You can create your own house and the house of the town sims.

This is done in the building mode and you can get very creative with the building blocks and pieces. As your town grows, more pieces become unlocked and you have more choices to make. You can also build the furniture that goes inside the house and then paint them with different colors and textures.

There are many things to do around the town besides building. You can explore, plant trees, collect essence, fish and dig up things. Once you complete the tasks and the town becomes five stars you can continue to play as long as you want. It’s a fun sandbox game that will keep you occupied for hours and is easy to come back and pick up where you left off.

(In this picture they were making a bathtub with a ship. A very tough blueprint to use but he created it and painted and the development team cheered him on. The guy on the left is the infamous "Goopy" from the Sims2 game. His Sim shows up as an NPC randomly within the Sims2 game. He's the animation director for the MySims game.)

The DS version takes place at a resort and you help make it better to attract more tourists. You also can explore and create and it contains 10 mini games that earn money. One of the mini games is downloadable to a friends DS as long as the unit stays turned on, it can be played without the MySims game card.

(This is Mitch Yeno, one of the developers for the DS version of the game.)

There is no multi player or downloadable content at this time but they have hopes of including that in future games. It’s a good family game and a “must have” for your Wii game collection.

Please ask questions if you have them. I also have more pictures I can show.

If we can get some contests going with the creation of furniture and game items, EA might send us some swag as gifts. Maybe once everyone gets the game we can do that.

Here are some more in game screenshots, alot of my photos came out blurry.  :-\:

This was my character, it looks male with a skirt, a beard and a spider on his face.

This is him walking around the town.

He was dancing at the disco.

Visiting the local museum.

The silly house I created. This sim likes fun stuff so he was very happy with it.

If you liked Animal Crossing I think you'll like this game. It has some of the same flavors such as your character moves to a town with NPC characters and you interact with them but it's much more creative in that you can build your own house and furniture. They ask you for items that you have to create to give to them. The unlockable items keep you playing to gain all the new content and playable areas.

Yes, I think I'll like the game, but she will LOVE it. She uses The Sims2 mainly to build houses, so she will love this to bits.  :D

I sent a different write up to Steve so hopefully that one will end up on the front page. I didn't want to post the same thing twice.

No one has any questions?

In all honesty, you think it will be good or bad?

Does it live up to the Sim name?

How much will it cost? And, is there a story option or is this just like Sims where this goes on infinitely?

I think the game will be good if your willing to give it a chance. It was alot fun to just mess around in at a leisure pace. I'll probably get it the day it comes out.

It's probably going to take a little while to get used to them being Sims but I don't think it will be a huge adjustment. It's going to seem different because your dealing more with the creativity part of the game than the Sim needs part. You don't have to make them sleep or eat or pee, just keep them happy. This game is targeted toward the Nintendo fans and it has the chance to appeal to the Japanese market who never really took to the other Sims.

I think it will cost the usual price of a console game, about $49. This game has more of a story option than the PC Sims because you have goals to achieve, levels and items to unlock. You can play it as an endless sandbox game or you can work on meeting the game goals to get more things.

Do u think how similar is it to Animal Crossing Obviously the NPCs aren't animals but will it do things like day night cycles regular events etc?

It does cycle day and night but it's not real time. As far as I know there is no seasons. I think there might be events that happen only at night but you can sleep until day time if you don't want to play at night.

I just picked up the Wii version. About to try it now. Although opinion on the internet seems pretty divided

Note: (added with edit3) What I am playing is only the beginning of the game, and as such, its harder to judge the quality off what I'm playing. Do not take anything I say as fact.

EDIT1: I'm playing around with the Create a Sim, theres some really funny looking characters you can make. From a Nerdy looking guy, to someone who looks a little like a Sherlock Homes type detective. But beware of the random button. :P (I mean it, unless you like looking at homeless looking travesties ;))

EDIT2: The building editor is fun, although the controls are a little awkward. But its seems to be pretty easy to fix a mistake. Also I love the scores- cute, geeky, studious, spooky, tasty (don't ask me), and fun.

EDIT3: I take back what I said about the building editor being awkward :P. The object editor is far worse. Although getting to gripes with the camera helps. Also, good news is that when you build something, it seems that you don't have to follow the blueprint too closely. I'm going to try this again later to learn more about the blueprints and how closely you have to follow them. Or I could just check the manual ;)

EDIT4: OK, I finished the tutorial and I'm trying the object editor again. From what I've seen, when you go into the editor to pick a blueprint, the object is shown as a "blue ghost". Now, some parts of the object have little stars on them where the Sim interacts with it. It seems that as long as you put in those parts, the object will work.

EDIT5: I just checked what I said above in the manual. So in conclusion, the object editor is awesome. Although, it doesn't say much for the quality of game when you consider, I'm probably spending more time typing this, despite the fact that you probably already knew most of it, than playing it ;)

Thanks for your comments on the game. Yeah, the object editor is awesome, you can get really creative with things as long as you fill in the star parts. I think we'll have a building contest later when everyone gets the game, have you guys submit screen shots and give away a cool prize. EA said they would donate some swag.

Pros:

Very cutesy style.
Totally different to the older Sims games.
Creating objects is easy to pick up.
You can change your face and clothes at any time.

Cons:

Too similar to Animal Crossing
Doesn't really make use of movement controls, only point and click stuff.
Slightly repetitive.

That's what I've got from the game so far.

Back!

This game is now coming out on the PC. Mostly the same game but there will be some new characters, new objects and essences and a new multi-player area.  You can create a garden and invite friends (you have to have their screen names) and they can join you in this section. While there you can build things and play games like tag. You can also visit their gardens.

Any questions?
