Yeah I don't see all that much wrong with the RP right now. It's going on as it always has.

Looking back on my last post I am wondering if I only showed Mantar, Stranger, and Richard for a reason. They are the only original characters left, aren't they?

Yo Lurk, you're online, tell us why you think the RP isn't doing well.

If there is a problem that we all missed you've got to tell us quickly.

Perhaps the new OPF should have a less rigid command structure whereby no one person is totally in charge. It would be the natural response to being almost destroyed because of a few key people being killed. If many people shared responsibility then anyone trying to instigate a coup would have to kill everyone, which would basically be impossible.

That sounds like a good idea, but when high ranked people keep leaving to do things, who would be able to fit in those positions?

Let's look at a list...
Richard: Has been a part of several OPF victories, but has failed to show consistent loyalties.
Sam: A loyal agent who fights to the end, but his loyalty is a two-edge sword, for he's somewhat of a loose cannon when it comes to prosecuting the enemies of the OPF.
Recurring Named NPCs: Loyal and stable due to being NPCs, but have very little character development due to the same reason.

Mantar's not on the list, since he's already kind of in a position he can't really escape from at the moment. And did I forget anyone?

Oh and Rothschild is supposedly leaving, right?

We've run out of good guys. The entire focus of the game has shifted from the (good, if corrupt) OPF to the (neutral) Custodians, leaving the OPF pretty much redundant... which is not what the most powerful pseudonatural law enforcement agency around is supposed to be.

Destroying the OPF wasn't what left them this powerless, though. The focus of the RP has shifted from the titular SUPERPOWER setting to a noticeably different "supernatural/mage-punk" setting, in which law enforcement agencies are invariably powerless: even massive ones which run on low-powered superheroes. That many superheroes should be able to deal with anything that's thrown at them, that's what they're for. The Custodians haven't as much stepped on their toes as amputated their feet.

Neo's introduction is slightly out of the reality:
Quote
Paper and coins are still used, but people usually have a small ring, bracelet or necklace which they can swipe by scanners on machines and the money comes direct from their account."Physical" money is about as common as you would consider a silver dollar.
Which is a sure sign of the end times.

Krakow Sam's RP posts sometimes have typos in them, and I don't remember that happening before.

Always has quit.

Luminar has quit.

And I've been distracted by Star Control and lost the chance to claim a little bit of dignity for the OPF, thereby accidentally consigning them to the dustbin. They can't rebuild if they've been shown to look incompetent.
Not a winner anymore.

Well, I hoped I wouldn't have to reveal this, but I'm crippling the Custodians.  They'll be there, but the fate of humanity is being thrust to the OPF.  The whole reason I made the Custodians is that supernatural baddies had to have something stopping them before, and this arc is something of passing the torch.

Not so sure what we can do about the mage punk thing though, I think we're stuck with it.
Nefarious?  Nearly.  Ne’er-do-well?  Never!  Neither nearly names this narrator.  Naive and knowledgeable, notorious and inscrutable, this nascent Nero is known naturally as Neoadept.

They do? Damn, I need to start checking them better.

Considering both agencies are crippled or to be crippled perhaps an in-story merging would be in order. The Custodians have undeniably better understanding of magic, but their pure technology is clearly lax compared to that of the OPF, who have Richard working for them. The OPF became a bloated organisation with fingers in too many pies, this led to their downfall.
It seems clear that the two should fuse into one coherant entity, allbeit with two different divisions. The rememnants of the Custodians should devote themselves to the supernatural, freeing the resources of the OPF to concentrate on superscience. Heroes relying on technology or science could then realistically grow in power to match the magic-users, justified by an increase in funding in their specialisms, which would draw attention away from the mage-punk aspect.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

Plus Neo and I had discussed a plan a while back that would additionally help draw us away from all the magic.

Oh also, Lurk, please post a response to Yossi's post in the RP. :) Pretty please!

Oh, I should clear up that my last post wasn't an intro, just foreshadowing.  If you have something you want to do before the arc is over go ahead and do it.

And the combining organizations seems like a good idea, the OPF could use the extensive Back Door system.  And now that that's out, I'll openly ask if you want to bring Gennifer back.  You mentioned that the only thing preventing her from going for the top spots was affiliation with the Custodians, that wont be a problem after this.

With the back doors in place will there still be a need for the teleport?

And what of that magical globe? Has it been rendered obsolete by the teleport?

Well, since the next arc isn't officially up yet, I think the conference talks should happen during the buffer time between the arcs.

And for order of talks, how about after Sam, it goes to Rothschild then Richard? I could stick the named NPCs in there before Richard, they might as well be at least be considered for the initial rebuilt OPF command chain.

As for the globe, that was pretty much rendered obsolete, it was inefficient and if it was any hint from Mantar's uses, very uncomfortable to at least non-magic users.

But with Back Doors obsoleting Richard's, maybe I'm not sure what exactly Back Doors do. Are they a teleportation thing of some sort, or do they open a portal to some alternate universe from which they can move around quickly, or what?

News and Updates

5/22/07
I've updated the character lists so they should reflect every change up to today. Tell me if you find any problems!

5/19/07
Okay, I'll start advertising the new Arc some time soon. We might be able to get another person or two into the fray before we start.

Old News
Also, an update for the regulars. I missed this and some of you may have forgotten. But I found this while making up that list...

Hey, Y'all.

Sorry I haven't posted in, well, forever. I've been the 'victim' of a series of events that have kept me away, and will likely continue to do so for a little while more. Basically, it started when my internet connection when on the frits. By the time I got that worked out it was time to go on vacation for a week, and when I got back my school work was so piled up that I've had little time for anything other than writing papers and and unwinding with a bit of Dawn of War. Once this is all done and over with I'll try to get back on board with the RP, hopefully I'll be able to come up with a plausible excuse for Basil's prolonged absence.

See you! :)

The Back Doors can take you to any town with a department store.  The teleporter can take you anywhere.  I figure the Back Doors will be used to prevent the thing overheating.

And that Globe was always a little odd.  I mean, it's powered by the souls of dead hero's.  Mabey we just smash it this arc.

But with Back Doors obsoleting Richard's, maybe I'm not sure what exactly Back Doors do. Are they a teleportation thing of some sort, or do they open a portal to some alternate universe from which they can move around quickly, or what?

The Custodian base is hidden on another plane, which they rent from one of the friendlier demon lords.  The Back Doors are direct links to other doors in the base.  If you've read the Dark Tower, it's like those doors.

It's kind of like those doors in The Matrix then?

Oh hey I found the beginning of Arc VI and popped it into the summary.

Have any of you seen folks on the forum with an interest in RPing? If you know them well, feel free to invite them, otherwise PM me their names and I'll deal with them myself.

Lets ask the Steam Punk RP guys, they're good aside from the occasional mistake.

And yes, like those doors, though I didn't want the comparison to pop up.  I was watching the second one the other day and thought "Oh, s***, those doors are just like mine!  S***, they even have the same name!  I hope no one notices!"  Thanks for killing my hope, Pat.
