I was really enjoying the book, but I was really annoyed by 'In fact, America had more persistent survivors per square mile because AMERICA IS AWESOME THATS WHY! U-S-A! U-S-A!"....because it highlight the slight tinge of xenophobia in the book. (The Redeker Plan is 'controversial', with heated debate, but Russia's atrocities are just plain evil. USA!)
Other than that, the book was fantastic. I really liked the Japanese Otaku character, and the Chinese Admiral.
EDIT: Wasn't too keen on the idea that Europe's monarch become autocrats again. For a start, there are only three countries in Europe that I can think of that are Constitutional Monarchies....Sweden, Britain and The Netherlands? France, Russia and Spain certainly got rid of theirs. Secondly, in a disaster of that size, I personally would put no faith in the Queen...most people in Britain are pretty hostile to the Monarchy from what I've seen.
