You wanted a planet-creation editor?
« on: September 11, 2006, 03:01:04 pm »
http://www.solarsystem.org.uk/planet10/

I managed to crash a huge gas giant into the Sun on my first try and for my second I tried making something in the Inner Solar System that ended up wiping out Mars. Oops...

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to scour the Internet for applications like this that allow interactive modeling of the Solar System (not just tours) and modification of orbits using simulated physics.

Your monitor will self-destruct in 10 seconds...

cool, my flying bomb crashed into earth, we're all dead  ;D

This is pretty outdated, since we now (officially) have 12 planets

Err... no. 8 planets and two dwarf planets (Ceres and Pluto) plus a few extra-solar planets beyond Pluto.

But this will definitely help out CC.

This is great fun!  Unfortunately the asteroid decided that my peoples were inferior and so it "purged" my planet of life.  The highly combustible atmosphere didnt help, I fear.

Very nice!!!

I created a water planet rich in hydrogen where aliens had evolved quickly and become super-intelligent. The planet had the size of Neptune, with rings and a moon, and crossed the Venus and Earth orbits, but never shocked with them. The planet survived for more than 20 minutes, until a comet was shocked and destroyed my planet. It was very nice!!!   :D

Large, moslty hydrogen, rings... that I ignored that underneath the atmosphere was 100% rock helped too...

i created a planet with rings and 100% water, and it lasted for about 10 minutes before crashing into Earth
Under construction

NO NO NO its like this; Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Then there are the three new Dwarf planets; 134340 (formally known as Pluto), a large asteroid called Ceres, and a distant object called 2003 UB313 (unofficially named Xena).
Right on

Xena and Gabrielle sacked in favor of Eris and Dysnomia (I never thought astronomy could be so fast-paced :P )

Solar System to scale, in your browser (1 pixel = approximately 2000 kilometers)

That is only scale size for the planets, not the distance between them.

Also, I remember once finding a program, where you look down upon a star and its planets, you then designate the locations of planets, and play an orbit simulation.

AHA, http://www.burtleburtle.net/bob/java/orbit/index.html
Actually, scratch that, it's not quite the same.
