Considering i rarely visit the forums, spend a lot of time working and with my girlfriend/friends, i like to think i have a good social life.  It's all about balancing your time... if you REALLY can't sit down and do some work/go out with friends because you're addicted to visiting forums, then you may have a point.  But all i think you need is to learn how to manage your time - don't come on until you've got your work done.  Don't come on until you've spent time with your friends.  Don't come on unless you have some serious idle time.  No need to stop participating in a "hobby" simply because of poor time-keeping.

And how is talking with people on the computer any different to talking with your friends about video games?  If your friends don't like video games and that kind of stuff, then you don't have to wonder why you feel the need to visit gaming forums all the time!

Plus i've learned over the years not to take threads like these seriously.  Maybe this is a serious one... but inevitably people WILL come back and visit again, just out of curiosity.

I'm similar to Janos, forums are always less of a priority than everything else.

My guess is forum games.

They're just too addicting. And if you have like a bunch you are an active participant in, then I guess you can easily get 25-100+ a day.
And with this post, I've opened yet another can of worms.

Friend: I propose a knife fight to decide

Me: But you're the only one of us who carries a knife.

Friend: Correction, four.

Yeah, but its socialisation without actual human contact. We could just be talking to sophisicated (and not so sophisticated) chat-bots for all we know.

Here's something I've learnt. If you want to leave a forum, you do it like Patman did (before he came back) and not like Pilot4life. You don't know that you won't return, and if/when you do you'll look pretty dumb. Just say that you may or may not be back.

You can never really leave... you'll come back eventually, for some reason or another.

Ironic, no?
