MADtv vs. SNL?
« on: August 28, 2005, 02:51:12 am »
Just a matter of opinion?

SNL is definitely not as funny as before though they have better guests in my opinion, but Michael Mcdonald or Bobby Lee from MADtv always cracks me up.

Favorite MadTV sketch was probably when Will Sasso came back to do a parodied version of the Apprentice with Kenny Rogers :D

This topic would have been better with a poll, but what the heck?

I like SNL, their jokes are better thought out and funnier. MADtv is just saying random crap and hoping the audience laughs. I admit that some MADtv sketches are funny, like the muslim terrorist who was supposed to infiltrate American trust but found it very comfortable, but a lot more of the sketches I've seen are just "WHAT'S YOUR NAME, SEAN CONNERY?" "MY NAME IS TIFFANY LOL OMG!"

Oh come on!  You have to love the Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man.
I have been told
not by one but two of my lovers
that I've got a heart of gold
but I'm unable to share it with others
They call me a poet who'll never have a poem
a tiger with no taste for bone
I'm the wonderful wonderful wizard who's waltzing alone

Damn!  A poll! My greatest weakness!

I dunno B-Rod, I find SNL cast members laughing at their own jokes. MADtv sketches are definitely more chaotic though, and yea some stuff is pretty random, but how can you hate Bobby Lee as the translator that can't translate? I liked SNL before I mean, Barry Gibb's talk show and the Adam Sandler days alway made me laugh, I guess I just don't like the current cast.

I find myself missing In Living Color or Chappele Show. Those were awesome sketch shows. And for Chappele show, it was my favorite sketch show of all :<

MADtv vs. SNL? Um... that is like asking to compare a root-canal to an IRS audit.

If they would spend time working up funny skits rather than just trying to fill air time with fart jokes it would be better. Sadly they just can't keep up the funny stuff long enough to make it interesting.

Yeah, I don't watch either because it's not entertaining for the hour that they have to fill every week. Why not wait 2 or 3 weeks, then come out with some funny sketches? You can't just rush comedy like that otherwise you get a sketch about 2 kids who say "YOUR STOOPID!?" "żNO YOUR STUPYD!" and then the audience laughs for no reason.

24 with Bobby Lee was a nice skit as well. Enough to make me chuckle a long time.

i saw this really stupid sketch on Mad TV.

A man sits on a chair and it make a farting sound. He spends the next five minutes trying to make the chair make the noise again. He finally farts and blames it on the chair. That was the most boring five minutes of my life.

SNL all the way. The only thing I ever loved on MadTV was their Rudolph claymation cartoon. It was a parody of the Godfather. HI-larious.

Wow, this makes me realize how long it's been since I was an active user here.

SNL turned to crap over the years and all they do now is laugh at their own corny jokes.

MadTV's golden age occured somewhere around it's 6th or 7th season. Debrah Wilson, Alex Borstein, Nicole Sullivine, Will Sasso, Mo Collons, Stephinie Weir, Aries Spears, Michael Mcdonald, (And for a very short time Bobby Lee) All Shared the Same Stage.(Phil LaMarr just missed Bobby Lee by like a Hair, And Orlando Jones missed Him by about the length of the Golden Gate Bridge) Since then They haven't been able to really recapture the Golden agieness. Along with some old ones They still have some really good newish standouts. Ike Barinholtz, Frank Caliendo, Keegan Michael Key,(The Depressed Persian Tow Truck Man Who I've decided to mention In my post for no apparent reason) and Jordan Peele to name a few. I'd Name Paul Vogt and Ron Pederson, but apparently they've left the cast. Wow that was fast.

Oh, and I apparently Aries Left this season so... Michale Mcdonald and Stephinie Weir (And About 1/3rd of Bobby Lee) Are all that's left form the Golden Age. Though If they can just write stuff more actually funny and less shock value ew Ha Ha he said something profane and discusting, funny, they could recapture that golden age. They can't do Stewert Sketches anymore because The Joke's sort of run dry without Mo Collons as the Mother.

I'd sat that SNL is almost as low as Blue Collar TV but thats just my opinion. I really liked Madtv especially when I was watching it when I was only 8 or 9 years old and I do remember the Miss Swan sketches that were pretty funny. The top few that were the most funny on that show is Michael Mcdonald, Will Sasso, Aries Spears, Alex Borstein, Mo Collins and Bobby Lee, But now its lowered its self to a point where they are almost picking people off the street to do the sketches.

In my opinion Saturday Night Live started sucking in 2000 when Tina Fey came in as head writer.

Mad TV started sucking just last year when most of the last remaining good cast left. And as I heard it, most of the good writers.

So they both suck now. I dont watch Tv on Saturday nights anymore anyways, so it doesnt matter.

I tend to disagree. But to each his own. For me the whole show went downhill with her and the revamp of the cast and writing staff.

You hear about the SNL shake up?

I only hope they keep Kenan around. He's hiliarious and He's only been a full fleged cast member for a season, but it's rumored they may fire him.
I hope they don't, I think he's one of the best things the show has going for it. (Especially since he's drawing in the "Hey, I remember him from all that" crowd. I myself am somewhat part of the "Hey, I remember him from All That" Crowd.)

...So, yeah, long story short. I prefer SNL to MadTV nowadays. By a long margin. I've come to the realization that it's funnier, smarter, the sketches are better structured and Andy Samberg has found a great use for cats.

I am a MadTv kinda man but SNL is really great and it's quality was pretty good over the years. Mad is great and all but is changing as the cast gets more gumbled up with people I haven't even heard of. Not that diversity is bad but bringing back some of the classic cast would be nice. Like Frank Caliendo, Aeries Spears, and one of my favorites Phil LaMarr. And I know everyone has their own project and all but bringing back some of the classics would be nice. Over all I like both but I stick with SNL for it's endless laughs and originality.

Oh come on Mad tv is much funnier.  Michael Mcdonald is hilarious.  Mad tv has better comics on it and better characters.  I cant tell u the last time I laughed watching SNL, its just not funny I find it to be extremely forced.  When guys like Will Ferrell were leaving it really started rolling downhill.  Although Mad tv's quality in my opinon is beginning to decline as well.

MadTv is funnier at random stuff.  SNL is better at political stuff.
