Spore Stickies
« on: August 27, 2006, 07:37:24 pm »
Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this, but over at the Spore: General forum we have a ridiculous amount of stickies. The twelve posts can really be a nusicence when visiting the forum, since the only thing you see when you first click is the stickies rather than the newest posts. While some are useful, others are outdated, unedited or simply useless. The best example is the Spore Icons page, which no longer even has the images. My suggestion is that the stickies be fixed, through merging or de-sticky-fying or whatever needs to be done. Thanks for reading, guys.

(If this is totally out of line, please don't flame. Just tell me, ok?)

No actually this is a good point.

I don't go there often, and I know about the stickies, but they still catch my by surprise every time. It is very hard to find topics in those forums.

Consolidating them, like Sporific said, is probably the best idea.

Don't worry. Suggestions are always welcome. I have an idea to fix this, but first, I want to know which topics you guys think are things that need a sticky, and which don't. It will help me clean it up.

Specifically, I mean the "E3" Thread, "Spore Icons", "FAQ Suggestions", "Spore Forum Index", "Questions for the Devs" and the "Fansites" topic. Many of those could be merged into the Your Guide to Spore topic. "Will Wright's Spore FAQ" is also very, very outdated (it hasn't been updated in more than a year...). Finally, the "A Little Bit of Info About You..." could be combined with "A Warm Welcome For the Newbies" and we would be left with considerably less topics.

Sorry if that was confusing. If you take my suggestions, we would be left with
Warm Welcome for the Newbies
Spore Wish List
Image Archives
Your Guide to Spore

A lot more reasonable than before.

The problem with merging huge topics is that all the post no longer make sense. Here is my idea:

Make one post stickied. In that post, put links to each thread that would otherwise be stickied. That way, there is only ever one thread in the sticky, but all the important threads are still at the top. I just need to know what to add to that list. (Merging is not an option, it would mess up those topics way too much).

Good idea Ovi. I was thinking that the stickies needed to be cleaned up also. Aquaman has done a good job in keeping most information linked in the Spore Forum Index. If that one was left there and most of the other links inside of it, it would work. http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=4611.0

I would suggest leaving:

Spore Forum Index
Your Guide to Spore
Questions for the Devs (I think they might actually look at this one)

I think that Questions for the Devs and Spore Wishlist should be merged. They're chaotic enough as it is.

E3 and maybe Leipzig should be taken into one grand thread, or unstickied.

And then follow what LadyM or Oviraptor did.

I stop by the Spore: General forum every now and then to correct the mistakes and misconceptions so many make.

I like that idea, especially because we don't have to get rid of valubale info.

So, is anybody going to do anything about the stickies? Oviraptor's idea sounds good to me.

I think that's a great idea.

Oviraptor just told me that he hasn't done it because he was waiting for more opinions.

Good new everyone!

"Uh oh..."

You'll be making a delivery to the planet Trisol!

"Here it comes..."

A myserious planet, in the darkest depths of the forbidden zone

"Thank you and goodnight."
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.
