WTF
« on: August 22, 2006, 12:21:41 pm »
Anyone heard about this new game coming out for PSP? It's titled "Work Time Fun", and it seems like Wario Ware for PSP.

Stealing from your competition just doesn't work in this business.

Also, what happened to PSP's "awesome, DS-beating graphics?"  :P
Not a winner anymore.

WTF looks really fun, but really that is the best name for a game ever.

Especially, if what I heard about Wario Ware is correct, a Wario Ware ripoff.
And with this post, I've opened yet another can of worms.

Friend: I propose a knife fight to decide

Me: But you're the only one of us who carries a knife.

Friend: Correction, four.

The screenshots do not look as happy as Wario Ware... they make me sad...  :(

They should of named it: "Well thats fun"

I herd that from a comic. It sounds better then "Work time fun"  :P

I heard it as funny.

Anyway, since I traded in my PSP, I won't be getting this. Cool AN, you're still suffering with yours, right?

"Work Time Fun" fits the game though, as the game is made up of various work related tasks, such as capping pens, etc.

Don't knock it off as merely a WarioWare spinoff. This one looks a bit different, and it's from Japan, so what do you expect?

Lots of zaniness. And I can say that from having the experience of watching their game shows. If this game is anything like the shows, it's gonna be zany. *Laughs at the memory of "IQ"*

Suffering happily. Don't remember when it is released in Europe though.

Pah! Only 40 minigames. I wipe my nose at this pathetic attempt at making wario-ware for the PSP.

I would have respected them more if they'd simply called it 'WTF?' and not tried to explain away from the acronym's most common meaning. Though part of me wishes they'd have titled it "All Your Base Are Belong to Us," seeing as it's definitely inspired by Nintendo's franchise.

Yet oddly, Microsoft rips Sony off all the time. Or so they claim. No wonder the two of them love Nintendo so much. ;)

Well, y'know, Sony, they keep innovating, but everywhere they go, Microsoft is there. They just can't shake those guys!

You think Nintendo ripped off Atari to get Zelda? Hmm. I don't see that. Zelda was pretty landmark for its time period; I don't recall any Atari game being remotely comparable. Especially not to a level where you can contrast it to the extent Sony is blatantly taking from WarioWare with this game. But fair enough, they're building a genre. Of course the moment I hear Kaz say in an interview how Nintendo ripped WTF off by making WarioWare, I'm going to scream.

Which serves an interesting point. In every other case within this industry, building a genre has been accompanied by a general acknowledgement of what came before in said upstart genre. Which is to say that every platformer following Mario never claimed that it was being original, it was usually understood that it was paying homage to its predecessor. In Sony's case, they refuse to give credit to anyone and that makes me suspicious of their every move. And I think that's partly why other people utilize the term 'rip off' so naturally with Sony because they never give credit where it's due unless it's to themselves.

I was thinking along the lines of "Adventure."

As in the game.

I was thinking along the lines of "Adventure."

As in the game.

Which was a graphical version of a text game, in which case you can show a direct causal relationship between the two. Is there any way to know whether Adventure ever made it to Japan? I don't consider something a 'rip off' if the creator of the second game wasn't aware of the first. But it's an interest subject to consider: Did Miyamoto ever play Adventure or know about it prior to creating The Legend of Zelda?

But last I checked, the Atari 2600 really didn't reach Japan in any capacity.
