Virus in PM?
« on: August 19, 2006, 08:50:06 pm »
I woulda PMed this to Gaming Steve..but I don't have over 50 posts..

Anyway, I opened the pm, clicked on none of the links.
2 hours later...
Virus protection goes haywire, i restart comp, and it freezes whenever I log in.

I'm on my brothers computer right now. Think that this PM could be why I have a virus?

I wouldn't think so. Unless you clicked on any of the links I'm not sure the PM system would support anything like a virus being sent through it.
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

I doubt that there is a Virus, however this seems to have messed up the Personal Messaging system.

Both LadyM and I are both having trouble. None of our new messages are showing up. We have to delete old messages in order for them to show up.

Is anyone else having this problem? Please say something.

Well I have 14 messages but my counter says 11...so that's kind of a problem. also the total didn't go up with Steve's post however it was at 12 then so it's starting to somewhat count my deletions. I don't know if it's working right for me again though.

Hey, danzik, you have -3 messages, 0 are new.
Unsure if this is related to the problem you're having since I'm recieving messages fine.
It is strange though.

Here is something very interesting.

762 just sent me a PM and all my messages that I could not see, appeared.

I am having him send one to LadyM to see if it fixes anything.

Also, I asked about this at the SMF Forum so hopefully they can help.

There no virus. I am not sure what the problems are with the PMs as I do not have it with my account or any of the test accounts. It probably occurred when I deleted the spammer from the forums and deleted his account.

I would recommend the following as this might help when I have "strange things happen" with the forums:

1) Log off of the Gaming Steve forums.
2) Restart your computer.
3) Relaunch your browser and relog into the site.

This might do it, I would also recommend that you delete the Gaming Steve cookie from your browser as well after step #1, that should help.

Let me know if you have additional problems.

I'm still having the pm problem. I have to delete a pm to read the new one.  :-\

Maybe you just have to delete all of your PM's?
