Signs that I've been here too long: I remember a topic like this was already made. (merged)

My favorite board game is monopoly but I really haven't played one in a really long time. Most board games are available in video format now.

Monopoly is always fun, as well as Risk.

Does Apples to Apples count?  I'm going to say it does.  What was that game called I keep hearing about... Settlers of Cataan?  It sounds like kind of a big deal.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Eugh, Risk and Monopoly. Crap games which are inexplicably popular for the sole reason of tradition.

I highly recommend Settlers of Catan, as well as Carcasonne and other german-style games. Diplomacy is good if you're a hardcore Risk fan, and casual games like Fluxx, Hive and others are great for casual gaming.

I love Monopoly.  I can nearly always beat my dad at it.  Also, I like Risk, but only using simpler rules.

TLDR:Daxx, don't insult the classics.  Seriously.
Twas Brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe, all mimsy were the borogoves and the mome raths outgrabe.

Actually Daxx knows what he's talking about. A lot of the the german-style boardgames really are better than the 'classics.'  I know I'd rather play Ticket to Ride, say, than Monopoly.

Scrabble's still cool, though.
Not a winner anymore.

Acquire is a good one, along with Diplomacy (as mentioned), and Axis and Allies. Don't like the last one because of the die though, that can get a bit annoying.

I love Carcassonne, I'm still waiting for a pack with the original and all the expansions though :(

Risk is really great with 5 or so people. 3+ is fine, but it's just not as good.

Ohhh, I love risk. Its better when you have less people to do the 'mission' risk. Its a much faster and more intense game.
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.
