I would except I have no one to play it with.

All the assumptions (i think) you made are correct. If some how I could better show you how it works exactly.

I would like to see the board the way I designed it though

If I were you, get this playtested somehow (hell, I'll do some if you like), and get this sent off to an agent, when it's been polished up. This is publishable material.

Edit: Also, I think you're going to have to show us how a 3 on a side board would work, I can't quite visualise how you'd arrange the pieces. I was assuming at opposite edges, was that correct?

Thank you! :)

How on Earth would I go about doing that?

And is there some way to playtest it with people here?

By the way, I invented this game 5 or 6 years ago but I have only really played a few games, and never to comlpetion. (except for by myself)

You mean show you an accurate board? I would but I don't know hoew to post pictures.

Well, firstly you'd need to find a local games group. You only live in Maine, so not out in the sticks, you should be able to find one somewhere near you, it's a question of tracking them down. Otherwise use friends and family (sometimes they're the best ones, because they'll try to break rules you haven't made without realising it). College/School/Uni (if you're at it) might also be a good bet. Anyone who'll sit down long enough to play is a good candidate.
If you playtest, it doesn't have to be fancy, coins on a piece of paper is how I playtest a lot of my games. Just something that gets the message across.

Playtesting with people here could be very tricky unless we either keep posting images to each other or someone writes a program to simulate it.

Do it in paint, go to imageshack.us, upload the pic in the little box thing (where it says browse), hit host it! and copy the link you get afterwards. (it's that simple, no registration required or anything)

By the way, I was right the first time about the pieces and I will show you shortly how that's possible.

Here it is:

Edit: The triangles are supposed to be equilateral

Aha! That will work wonderfully. I just couldn't see it in my head. so, is the board 3x3x3 or 3x4x4 (as you have drawn it)? Both should work equally well - with the second leading to a slightly longer (and possibly more interesting, more strategy involved) game, the first will have a significant amount of defender involvement (at a glance).

I prefer it the way I drew it because I would rather more strategy.

Anyone else have any questions? I don't want anyone left in the dark. ;)

PS should I post pics of how the pieces move?

Looks good. I'm going to see if I can get a playtest session running, and I'll post the results when we're done.

Fantastic! :)

I only wish I could be there as well. :'(

I was thinking about what you said yearlier and came up with a possible 3-player variation. I have no idea how it would affect gameplay.

Note: the purple lines are where I added to the gameboard

Postnote: Incase you were wondering, because I forgot to mention it, the ruler can jump one of its own pieces, but only when it is in "check."

That'll also work well. Gameplay will be very interesting. There's almost enough space for each player to be comfortable, which should spark conflicts more quickly. The ruler's 'get out of jail' move is interesting, we'll try variations where you are and aren't allowed to do that so that you can see how it affects gameplay.

I was going to suggest that you get rid of the 'check' rules, and just make the aim of the game to capture the ruler, or have the last surviving ruler. That way, you get rid of the complexity of the check rules, and make it easier for the three player variation.
You'd need to change the ruler's escape move to be whenever he's being threatened, if this happened.

If we're lucky we might be able to play a game or two today.
