Regardless of what people think of the game, isn't two million sold considered successful?

Mentioning sales will probably prompt replies of how zomgCOD4soldmoar, and well, if it did then it's a more successful game as far as the market goes.  But that doesn't mean Spore sold poorly.

Talk about a necro <_<  >_> Should I feel happy that I created this thread or sad that it's just from a necro bumper? This thread brings back memories though. To me personaly spore did pull a fable but I dont think it's the fault of Will. I assumed that Spore was going to be for a more hardcore crowd with indepth gameplay. While I guess Will's vision was a more casual one. Though the eidtors did not dissapoint  the actual impletation of them did. Similar to fable I was asuming a much more indepth game with actual time growing the character and the things around him, though this was because of the promises Peter made and did not deliver. Both have been sucessful yet I think fable was the larger dissapointment. While I had to let spores lack of depth become apparent after the playing through the game.

Dont get me wrong I love both games their gameplay life just dosn't do it for me compared to others like Civilization or Fallout 3

In retrospect man my typing was horrid back then I can barley understand myself, talk about a grammer mess.

Now seriously, I think a lot of people will be disappointed, not about stuff they've talked about not being in the game, but about things they have assumed to be in the game.

Just in case I still type like that, I think this quote sums up what I think happend to me.

the most downloaded bittorrent game of this year with 1.7 million . copies...I guess you could call that a success.

But none of those is ever going to buy the game after they have tried it, what is there to come back for in a retail version?

The spore online system was overhyped, remember they said you could learn many information like when your creature got killed, domesticated and a lot more.

I actually expected a lot of percentages and other cool stuff...fail.

It boils down to some text lines that is useless.

Regardless of what people think of the game, isn't two million sold considered successful?

i hate this argument, if a game sells tons of copies it is NOT instantly good.
Battlezone II one of my favorite strategy games of all time, and even then, it didnt sell tons of copies, but i still found it great.
then again, i did not care for COD4 when the game practically has a chruch built off it.

Success and quality are mutually exclusive.  A game can be bad and still sell well.  A game can be good and sell poorly.  Your opinion of the game does nothing to change how successful it is or isn't.

Then why do you hate that argument, if you agree with it?

But Prok never said Spore was good or bad, he just said it was a success in terms of sales.  That's why I'm confused.

Half of spore's sales are pirated, just so you know ;)

I never said anything about the quality of the game, I was only saying that the sales were not poor.  Like you guys said, quality and sales success are mutually exclusive.
