New Dell Commercial
« on: August 08, 2006, 11:18:52 am »
Dell must be loosing it a little more every day, or at least their PR team is. In the latest Dell commercial a guy is give a ride through a fantastical Dell factory where he gets to pick all manner of colorful objects and people to go into his new PC. One of the first things he picks is a giant purple monkey. What this monkey is supposed to represent is beyond me as most of the other things he picks clearly represent things like music and education, but it should likely sound fairly familiar to most of you. (Hint: he ain't your Buddy)
Makes you wander what Dell was thinking.

I hate that commercial.

I hear the happy lady talking to the guy about the parts he is getting in his computer... and I think about all the lies that lady is telling him.

The thing I hate the most about that commercial is the lost potential. She asks what he'll be using it for. Here's he actually responds:

"My kids like to play games, but I like to do some video editing."
"Okay, well, you need X, Y, and Z."

Which is total BS. Here's how the conversation SHOULD have gone:

"I like to---err, my kids play video games, yeah. I like to...uh...do some video editing?"
"Suuure. You'll need X, Y, and Z."

I mean, COME ON! Who does video editing ONLY? Like 1 in 50 million people? He just takes videos then edits them? Yeah right! It would've been more believable if he took videos in a game like WoW and THEN edited them. So much lost potential. It bothers me so very much. Oh, and it's a Dell commercial, so that's two things against it.

Maybe Bonzi Buddy was actually secretly financed by Dell and they're covertly trying to make people want to reinstall him through subliminal messages! :o
That or somebody in their Computer Graphics department has a real twisted sense of humor cupled with a really lousy screener.

To be fair to the guy in the commercial - he is a dad, he probably doesn't play games and he has kids. That equates to - Yes - he really does video editing only... plus surfs the web and reads email. Does that sound too far fetch? Before becoming a new dad myself, I had no idea how or the desire to learn video editing (hello Pinnacle Studio suite). Now it's pretty important to know how to edit my home videos and recorded stuff (I got a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 card for that) PLUS I play games as well.

I notice he doesn't say what he does with the computer when his children are to bed.

PERVERT!

I was thinking that the monkey was like representing games, like a cheap ripoff of donkey kong or something.

Which is even more insulting...

"How do we represent gaming in our now new commercial?"
"Ooooh, Ooooh, Ooooh! I know! With Bonzi Buddy!"

Dell is hurting bad.  Burning laptops don't sell.  Altough I know they had nothing to do with it, but the public doesn't.

Isn't Bonzai Buddy that irritating screenmate that sings? I ****ing hate that thing- my cousin installed it on my PC once, years back.

Much irritating singing and forcing it to swear ensues.

Now if Dell took some notes from nutrigrain and made a similar ad, I think they'd see sales spike.
