Oh yea, i forgot to ask this. i heard a rumor somewhere buried deep in the web that the Creature Editor is going to be released early before the actual game. Tell me, can any of you confirm such a rumor, cause it would be really badass if it was true!  Grin

I don't know. I don't think there's been any confirmation.

But it would be a very good idea on Maxis's part, IMO. Not only to promote the game, but maybe they could also have people submit their creatures to Maxis prior to the game's release, and have them included in the prefab creature database that's supposed to be included on the game disc.

It would mean a deal less work for Maxis.

I heard it on SporeWiki. Some guy said it metioned it on a powerpoint of Spore, but i looked at it but didn't see anything (then again, i'm not the best person with hints)

Check out SporeWiki Questions Department, i think it was on there.

Quote from: Mason11987
They are, as of now, just rumors. We all HOPE they will bring one out, and I think there is substantial evidence to suggest they are at least planning on it. But they haven't said explicitly that they were going to. For evidence, refer to the image on the right from Caryl Shaw's presentation "Building Community Around Pollinated Content in Spore" at the 2006 GDC Presentation. I think that pretty much proves that they had at least previously planned on releasing it. Details on if it actually will be released, what will be released, in what form, and at what time are still completely up in the air though. So we'll have to wait and see, I honestly hope so. -- Mason11987 07:15, 10 April 2006 (PDT)

It might happen, but I don't think the creature editor will be released.  Maybe the plant editor or a real-limited creature editor.

On one hand, a creature editor would definitely get people hooked. On the other hand, the creature editor is a core gameplay element and if the game works like I think it would, you wouldn't be able to play the creature you made once the game ships.

Perhaps one of the editors that has a buy mode, so you can design something ahead of time and when you get to that stage it'll be available in the catalogue.

Just have to wait and see, I guess.

A side note, the pre-release of Bodyshop for TS2 included a limited amount of content compared to the shipped game.

I think that a creature editor will be released before the game comes out, but not too long before. Maybe like 3 or 4 months at the most. Plus, in this months Computer Gaming World magazine (spore is the cover story) WW said that the editors palettes come in 4 levels, which corresspond with the 4 levels of brain development. It wouldn't be too far fetched to think that Maxis would release a creature editor demo of like, the first 2 level in the palette, so not everything is unlocked, but you get a lot of creative options still.

i think it would be a good idea to release a limited version of the creature editor, but not a full version, because people will play the hell out of it and might become bored with it. and then when the game comes out, they will quickly become bored with the game because the creature editor is such a large part of the game.

I disagree. Nobody got bored when they released the Sims Body Shop. People would still want to actually see how their creature plays in-game, how it evolves, what kind of buildings, vehicles etc they can build to match its style.

If the creature editor were released, IMO you'd only have access to the first stage of a creatures brain and the parts associated with it. That way people could make (computer controlled) creatures for the creature stage while still keeping certain parts of the game secret.

well maybe they would release one early so they could get people hooked AND to get more creatures to help pollinate the game so when you get the game it will already have tons of player made creatures. So this creature editor would need to be connected to the internet to do this though.

There's already about 5 threads like this. I think the general consensus is that they probably will release the creature editor early, and they apparently plan to do so, but nothing is confirmed yet. I think that if they release the creature editor, none of the extra bodyparts/textures will be unlocked, only the first column in each category.
