Now on a scale of one to ten (Ten being the worst) how bad was it?

And what do you see when you look out your windows.

It was only a 4.5 (on the richter scale) but it was pretty shakey. Just kinda surprised me, haven't had one in so long.

Yeah.

For those of you that do not know, "Bay Area" roughly translates to somewhere near SanFrancisco.

But you do live in the Bay Area, right?

It is the accepted term for the Bay near SanFrancisco.

The bay area to me means Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Try saying San Fransisco instead of assuming no-one else lives in a bay of some kind.

I didn't feel it, though.

Freezing rain sucks, but I'll take that over earthquakes. Last thing I need is the pipeline nearby to explode... I live in what they call the "kill zone". Don't think I need to explain what that entails...

I didn't.

I mean, I probably could have guessed, you know, "Earthquake" and "America" pretty much just make you think of San Francisco...

So yeh, unsurprisingly, nothing felt here...

We got an earthquake around here around two weeks ago. Was a minor jolt, lasted about two seconds and only shook things up a little bit.

I'm actually quite relieved that we've been having these little quakes down in Southern California this last year or so. Better a bunch of little ones that don't do much than The Big One (allways capitalized)

I'm upset.  Last week or so there was a magnitude 5 earthquake from Toronto to Ottawa, but I didn't feel it since I was up in a office tower at the time.

I am so jealous of everyone I know who got to feel it.

Apparently we just had an earthquake?

My mom and sister felt it, I didn't. They described it as a sort of "slamming down" earthquake, instead of the more common (around here anyway) "side-to-side" earthquake.

EDIT: Nevermind.

OK, so... where do I start?

So, I was at seventh period lunch, just minding my business, when all of a sudden, the back wall of the cafeteria starts undulating like water! Everyone panicked, except a few of us who walked over to the administrators to ask what was going on. Then, the fire alarm goes off, so we're all sent outside. Then, they send us all to the football field. From there, all the walkers, including myself, are eventually sent home after finding out that what hit us was not a bomb, but rather an aftershock from an earthquake that supposedly hit Virginia.

It's been one of those days.

Well, when you live in an area that isn't usually hit by anything so much as a tremor, and especially if you're not around people, sometimes you may wonder if you just imagined it or not.

At first I thought it was in my head until I heard my shelves rattling.

Try feeling a magnitude 9 earthquake.

It wasn't my intention to make it into one.
I thought this was just a small Earthquake and people were being whiny.
Now that I have looked into it I see that it's a little more serious than that.

Very true.
In space, no one can hear you scream unless your transmitting it on the right radio frequency.

Undulating walls? It was just a 5.9. You might as well have told me your house was washed away after a sprinkle.

But American buildings are made of wood, chipboard and wishes. I could totally see them waggling all over the place.

I mean, on the East Coast REPRESENT! buildings aren't retrofitted to handle earthquakes unless it's the White House or something. They just don't happen here.

Apparently the Washington Monument got a little messed up. They closed it down to repair a bunch of cracks.

So apparently there was a minor earthquake in the Netherlands yesterday evening. Only 4.5 on the Richter scale, but still. That sort of thing isn't supposed to happen here. The epicentre was too far south to be caused by the winning of the natural gas.
I live relatively far away from the epicentre, so I didn't notice. Probably because I was playing TF2 at the time. But my brother and my mom did notice a very slight tremor.
Of course, me being the only person in the Netherlands on the forum at the moment, the thread title isn't really applicable here, but I thought I'd post this anyway.

Isn't great distance from the Netherlands?
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

No, she's from Finland. The only Dutch members are Celdur, Xenomorph, and me, as far as I know. Xeno hasn't been here for half a year, and Celdur's in Canada at the moment.

I'm pretty sure there was just an earthquake near me.

It woke me up.

-EDIT- Apparently it was only 3.3, but it was a mile away and like a tenth of a kilometer underground.
