Hate to be the parrot here, but my reasoning is also the same.

EA has given me no signs that they've changed whatsoever. Sim City is still fresh in my mind, how can I just ignore that debacle? And now The Sims 4 is sounding a lot like Sim City, what with corners cut and questionable business ethics. I do not trust EA, I refuse to give them money (I haven't bought an EA game in years, I'm serious about this) and I will not install Origin. It was a spyware tool at one point in time, monitoring outside processes unrelated to Origin or its companion software.

No. EA needs to build a lot of bridges before I start giving them money again. And then after that maybe I'll consider Origin. Getting something for free isn't worth compromising on what I believe in, especially a free video game that is absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things. EA are a cancer on my hobby and have actively made it more difficult to enjoy by completely ruining top-tier franchises for literally no reason other than greed.

No.

But I hope you have fun with it. I won't try to take it away from you, it's your decision and Sims 2 is a really great game. :)

I'm with you, Pat.  EA is horrible, but I can't decide if I hate them enough to turn down a free game.
Probably not a Goat, either.

As the saying goes "There is no such thing as a free lunch" and that goes double for EA.

While I agree with the rest of your points, I felt I had to point this out:
It was a spyware tool at one point in time, monitoring outside processes unrelated to Origin or its companion software.
The screenshot that allegedly showed that, was just Origin scanning the disc to find any installed games that could be added to Origin. Steam does the same thing when you press 'Add non-Steam game', it scans your computer for executables.

Spyware.

I don't trust EA but I do trust Valve. I don't care if Valve looks at my vital stats and program usage because they don't have a history of screwing me and being fast and loose with customer relations.

I've not had an issue with Origin though I don't use it much. I like having my Sim games backed up there. Sims2 was free and every Sim3 game I bought through steam and can put the code in Origin and it's listed there too. I would say do it but that's because I already did.

Origin is fine. I don't trust EA as a genuine company that makes real video games, but Origin is adequate as a platform for the games I do have. If you are irrationally paranoid and conspiracy crazed as you are, I won't suggest it then. Not recommend.

This is the part some people don't get. :P

You know I don't like it so stop trying to get me to use it, I don't trust them as a company so everything else stops there.

That was aimed at the discussion in general and not you Pat. But you prove my point regardless of the paranoid part...

D'aww we still love you though!
