I've been debating the gun topic a lot away from the forum (Minnesota is working on a disarmament bill or two) so sorry if I haven't been more vocal here. States are terrible in terms of laws, and with Minnesota being Obama's "first stop" there seems to be a fanboy attempt to make a very strong start by making firearm ownership the most possible evil act known to man. (sorry for the use of poetic license)
Minor sidestep. One argument (debate is not how these things end up, so lets cut the crap) had someone 'calling me out' because I don't own an 'assault weapon' yet I say people should be allowed to own them. Truth be told, I don't care much for semi-automatic weapons and personally I don't have a high regard for the AR-15 family of weapons having suffered with a crappy M-16A1 when I was in the Army. Now I know that the AR-15 family of weapons made by reputable gun manufacturers or custom AR-15s weapons by reputable gunsmiths are excellent finely tuned weapons, but I don't like them. Much in the same way that I've never cared for wine or coffee. It is a matter of taste. For some people the AR-15 family is the weapon that saved their lives, or their son's lives, etc... it is their choice, their preference of taste, a weapon that stood up to the condition they were in and helped them to walk away from hell or bring a loved one home. I am not going to tell them, sorry, that design isn't fashionable because a nutcase decided to use it to kill children, even though it was used to save you or a family member in the past, it is just too dangerous to be used by use because of the actions of one F-ed up person.
I own one firearm that doesn't fire .22LR that would be considered an 'Assault Weapon' under the current Fienstien attempt to ban firearms. It is a Glock handgun and I actually do not like it and want to sell it. I am a fan of lever action and bolt action rifles, pump action and 'crack open' shotguns, 'rolling block' long guns, and revolvers. But that is my taste, and while I do explain my taste to others looking to buy firearms for self defense, I always preface my comments with something similar to what you have just read so that they understand that it is 'my taste'.
People wanting to ban firearms have no concept of 'taste'. Taste is more than just a look or a function. Taste is a combination of factors that makes a firearm what it's operator wants and needs to function the way they want. Only people who have experience with firearms can understand 'taste'. We use taste to buy coffee, wine, cars, clothes, and food, but there are tons of people that want to tell you you are wrong. Only YOU can make the choice, and don't let others tell you what you want.
