PS3 Chip not even finished?
« on: May 31, 2005, 03:26:11 pm »
Has anyone else heard the rumours that the PS3 deos at E3 etc are nit running in the consoles actual chip and so could be better/worse than the actual graphics of the system?

Linkage - http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=2384

And just for those who are too lazy, heres the article, and there are plenty more all over the web!

nVidia's Chief Financial Officer Marv Burkett has revealed that the RSX chip, the announced graphics processor of PS3, is currently unfinished.

In fact, the chip is not due to be available to anyone until September.

This means the 'PS3' visuals shown at E3 could not have been created on one, casting doubt on the validity of Sony claims that the visuals were real PS3 in-game footage.

Therefore there is so far no such thing as real PS3 footage, and it looks like we'll have to wait until at least September to see what a real PS3 can actually produce.

It is first gonna come out in 2006 so I would think they are still improving it.

The XB wasn't done either, it was running off a pair of G4's.

It's been confirmed that the PS3 demo was running on an inferior system at the time. The prototype kit we saw is only 75% as fast as the actual PS3. Operating at 2.4Mhz, the real PS3 will work at 3.2Mhz, a pretty big difference. Apparently, it was running on an unnmaed Nividia GPU that hasn't been announced yet (Wanna bet that it was the 7800?). Find out all about it here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/06/22/news_6128031.html

The idea is to mix one ingredient that will burn very fast with a second ingredient that will supply enough oxygen for that burning. This burns so fast, it's an explosion.

Dude, it says it will be better than the demos we saw. Maybe not graphically, but that extra power can go into making the framerates stable.
