Replacing the battery in a GBA game pak?
« on: July 12, 2006, 05:18:17 pm »
Can it be done?  Can I just take any battery from another GBA game pak?

What fits well in the tri-blade slot on the GBA cart screw?

Thanks,
THE DM

I'm sure it can be done, but why would you?

My friend gave me Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrows for the DS at the same time he gave me the prequel for the GBA.  I can't save a game on the GBA version (well I can, but it's gone the next time I power up).  I didn't think much of it until I began to play the DS version.  I got ten minutes in and now I'm dying to play the GBA cart first.

So here I am :)

It sounds like a faulty game, nothing to do with your batteries

But we do like to tinker with crap.  :D

And the battery is probably the problem.

This sounds like it may be a bootleg game..  By any chance did your friend buy it from eBay?

If you can save on another game with the same GBA it's the game not your batteries

I can save, and go to the title screen, and my save is there.
If I power down for < about 5 minute, when I come back up the save is there.  If I wait > about 10 minutes, the save is not there.

It acts the same on my GBA SP and my DS lite.

It's the battery.  There is no other logical explanation.

I don't know if it came from ebay or not.  Is there a way I can tell if it's a bootleg, and does it matter?

MetallicDragon, this is a a portable gaming forum, and a portable game question.  By the helpful attitude of most of the rest of the posters, I'm can only assume that it's alright to post this here.  Please try to be constructive.  Thank you.

DungeonMaster is referring to the game's internal battery; not the system's battery

Also, I haven't a clue if they can be changed however, it would likely be cheaper simply rebuy the game considering they're going for lesser than $20 on the ebay.

Werechicken, are you posting to see yourself post? :)

It's not cheaper to replace a battery, if they're replaceable.  It's also much less of a hassle to take a screwdriver and spend ten minutes then have to bid, then win, then pay, then wait.

And anyway, I opened up a couple game paks, and some have batteries, and some don't.  So I can't anyway.  That, and I found on ebay that that game came in a double game pak with it's prequel, so I'm trying to get that.  But those damn bid snipers, Gosh!

Peace love dope!

But if you take the double-pack you can't get the bonus stuff for having Aria  :-\

What do you mean FS?  I've got the double game, but did I miss out on extras?

Naw, you only get the rare ring when you start a new game and you have a Mina doll waving int the background of Yoko's shop... that's all.

Btw, ON BEHALF OF THE ORIGINAL TOPIC!!!!

The screwdriver needed to open the GBA catridges... or the GBA... but NOT the DS or you will ruin it. The DS also has triwings but of a different size  ;D
