Conflict Desert Storm 2 on Xbox if anyone played that. Four player co-op.
Having escaped from jail, the squad had little more that a few Ak-47s and a clip or two each. We stumbled across a stash of grenades - some frags and some smoke, and we shared them out. We pressed on a little bit until through some alleyways until we came to an open bit of ground. We were at the south side of it. On the west side was a tank facing east. Along the east side a trench ran north/south. The open area was maybe 80 feet by 40 feet. Suddenly, a guard catches sight of us peeping through the gate. Moments later, the alarm is raised. Klaxons go off all over the compound and from all around, illuminating flares are launched. The place is immediately floodlit and the tank fires up. At the northern side, a machine gun post opens up, aiming short bursts in our vague direction. We needed a plan but there was no time or room for manoeuvre. With one man guarding the gate we huddled up and discussed the situation. It hit us all at the same time - we had no choice but to press through. We had one man provide some covering fire as the others primed their smoke grenades and lobbed them at the open ground past the next gate. We hoped that they would provide enough cover.
We paused for a second, waiting for the smoke to spread out. A shared glance and then nods from us all - time to go. We all ran out at once, into the firing lines of 30 guards, one fixed machine gun and one T-62 Main Battle Tank.
Sprinting across the open ground and firing wildly and without aim, I stole glances left and right. Tracer rounds scythed through the smoke and night time air casting a flaming yellow light. Suddenly, all was dark as I thundered into a cloud of smoke. After an eternity of running I emerged to see the tank fire its main weapon into the ground ahead of me. Mud rained down, highlighted by the flames that filled the impact zone. Then a plunge into blackness as the next smoke grenade was reached.
Time to reload, I was still fumbling with the clip as I emerged into the dazzling firework display that I was in the centre of. Just a short patch of clarity between billowing clouds of airborne cover but it was enough to see our team leader being cut down by machine gun fire. Man down!
A plunge into darkness again, only two of us emerged this time. But look - the building was just ahead! The gunner couldn't track us now - we were moving too fast. Masonry and plaster exploded around us as we reached the building, but one last dive and we were in cover! I turn around to see my buddy slump to the ground. No time for that - i kicked the door to the armoury and burst in, taking out the two guards and the machine gunner from earlier. I scooped up a rocket launcher and ran out again - moving along the north wall to out-flank the tank. There it was - it's unprotected rear unobstructed. A hiss as I pulled the trigger - too late the commander realised his fate and tried but failed to get the tank rolling. Back to the machine gun! Ducking under fire I reach it and, after about 90 seconds of sustained fire, there was no movement but a few stray wisps of smoke and some grumbling teammates. Madkits for all and a trip back to barracks.
Total rush.
