Unlikely but Interesting
« on: June 24, 2006, 10:40:43 pm »
I was having a debate with someone over the dangers of drug use and such earlier today, and the thought crossed my mind. "What if there were drugs in Spore?" I mean, think about it, in the creature stage, you eat a certain plant and WOW! Look at the pretty colors! It'd be good for a laugh. (And no, I don't do drugs.)

Forget drugs, I'd be happy with bonus effects for eating certain types of plants.

Kinda like, eat plant x and get +2 on your attack rating or eat plant x and get -2 on speed for x amount of days.

Or the drugs give you a religious experience. You find yourself in an infinite white void and you are met by a creature that looks an awful lot like Will Wright.
Or you go to hell and you see one that looks like the Will Wright from the original Sim City.

And, instead of doing cool effects, if there were in the game some very rares plants that give you extra DNA; or other cool bonus ?
Or like the little balls in E.V.O., something that give you for a little time, new arms, or new theets etc. ?

erm... and drugs are...?

I've put this forward before, and of course we're just pissing in the wind with these kinds of wishes, but I think that both plants and animals should have toxicity options in the editor.

The types of toxins available for plants (and induced by eating the plants) would include:

stimulant: (higher energy, faster, better eyesight, stronger, greater social)
depressant/anesthetic: (higher pain threshold, slower movement, weaker)
nerve toxin: (immobilized, degenerative health)
carcinogen: (permanent loss to health and some stats)
antibody: (heal wounds and regain permanent losses)
hallucinogen:  (sense increases including sound and sight, less agility, less social)

there could be more variations too, but this would about cover the basics I think

I'd love it if on December 25th, it suddenly becomes snowy (Snowier if you're on an ice planet), and you get a free few bonus DNA points, and when you start the game, it goes "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

And anyone who says Happy Holidays is getting an Axe in the 'nads.

Quote from: The Will
In a movie, one can always pull back and condemn the character or the artist ... But in playing a game ... we can be encouraged to examine our own values by seeing how we behave within virtual space.
tl;dr. But with all those shiny symbols and numbers it's probably awsome.

Yes, but then we'd have to map out all kinds of important religious holidays and so forth. Then again it would be a nice surprise to get extra DNA points/currency on days of the year I dont celebrate. Free DNA points does seem like a bit too much, with the offline gamers using their PC clock to get free DNA points and farm it  :/

DO NOT PUT DRUGS IN SPORE, MAXIS!

It will be frowned upon by the ERSB, and they are, in a sense, 'the enemy'.

But then if Maxis put in medicine would ERSB frowned? As after all medicine are drugs, when not used in the proper way.
